STARTING AND OPERATING

Recreational towing — four-wheel drive models

~1min read

NOTE:

For recreational towing, the transfer case must be placed in (N) Neutral, the automatic transmission must be in PARK, and the manual transmission must be in gear (NOT in NEUTRAL).

  • DO NOT tow a four-wheel drive vehicle with only one set of wheels on the ground (front or rear). Towing with only one set of wheels on the ground will cause severe internal transfer case and/or driveline damage. Tow with all four wheels either OFF the ground or ON a dolly.
  • Tow forward only. Towing the vehicle in reverse may cause serious transfer case damage.
  • Automatic transmissions must be in PARK for recreational towing.
  • Manual transmissions must be in gear (NOT in NEUTRAL) for recreational towing.
  • Before recreational towing, perform the procedure described in "Shifting to (N) Neutral" to make sure the transfer case is fully in (N) Neutral. Otherwise, internal damage will occur.
  • Towing this vehicle in violation of the above requirements may cause serious transmission and/or transfer case damage. Damage caused by improper towing is not covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
  • Do not use a front fascia/bumper-mounted tow hitch on your vehicle. The front fascia bumper will be damaged.
