Oil Pan Repair Procedures

Removal

[Lower Oil Pan]

   Remove the engine compartment cover. (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "Engine Compartment Under Cover")

   Drain the engine oil. (Refer to Lubrication System - "Engine Oil")

   Remove the lower oil pan (A). Insert the SST blade (09215-3C000) between the upper oil pan and the lower oil pan. Cut the applied sealant and remove the lower oil pan.

   

   Insert the SST between the oil pan and the frame rail, tapping it with a plastic hammer in the direction indicated by the arrow. After tapping the SST along the direction of the arrow around more than 2/3 of the oil pan edge with a plastic hammer, remove the oil pan from the frame rail. Do not use the SST as a pry bar. Hold the tool in position (on the gasket line) and tap it lightly with a hammer. Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces of the upper and lower oil pans.

[Upper Oil Pan]

   Remove the engine assembly from the vehicle. (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "Engine and Transaxle Assembly")

   Mount the engine on an engine stand for disassembly.

   Remove the timing chain. (Refer to Valve Timing System - Timing Chain)

   Remove the lower oil pan. (Refer to Lubrication System - "Oil Pan").

   Remove the oil pump. (Refer to Lubrication System - "Oil Pump")

   Remove the left/right exhaust manifold. (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "Exhaust Manifold")

   Remove the upper oil pan (A). Insert the SST blade (09215-3C000) between the upper oil pan and the cylinder block. Cut the applied sealant and remove the upper oil pan.

   

Installation

[Lower Oil Pan]

   Install the lower oil pan (A).

   1. Using a gasket scraper, remove all old sealant from the gasket surfaces.
   2. Before installing the oil pan, apply liquid gasket TB 1217H to the oil pan. Assemble the part within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.

      Bead width: 2.5 mm (0.1 in)

      

      Clean the sealing surfaces before assembling the two parts. Remove harmful foreign material from the sealing surface before applying the sealant. When applying sealant, make sure the sealant does not protrude into the oil pan. To prevent oil leakage, apply sealant to the internal threads of the bolt holes.

   3. Install the oil pan (A). Tighten the bolts evenly in several passes.

      Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

   After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before adding engine oil.

   Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.

[Upper Oil Pan]

   Install the upper oil pan.

   a.	Using a gasket scraper, remove all old gasket material from the gasket surface.

   b.

   Before installing the oil pan, apply liquid gasket TB1217H to the upper oil pan. Assemble the part within 5 minutes after applying the sealant. Bead width: 2.5 mm (0.1 in) Clean the sealing surfaces before assembling the two parts. Remove harmful foreign material from the sealing surface before applying sealant. When applying sealant, make sure the sealant does not protrude into the oil pan. To prevent oil leakage, apply sealant to the internal threads of the bolt holes.

   b.	Install the upper oil pan. Tighten the bolts evenly in several passes. Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

   Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.
