Replacement

  • Prolonged and repeated contact with mineral oil will remove natural fats from the skin, leading to dry skin, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.
  • Take care to minimize the length and frequency of skin contact with used oil. Wear protective clothing and gloves. Thoroughly wash skin with soap and water, or use a waterless hand cleaner to remove used engine oil. Do not use gasoline, thinners, or solvents.
  • To protect the environment, dispose of used oil and used oil filters only at designated collection points.
  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface. Start the engine and allow it to warm up.
  2. Turn off the engine and open the hood. Remove the engine cover.
  3. Wait 5 minutes after loosening the oil filter cap to allow the oil to drain completely from the oil filter.
  4. Drain the engine oil.
    1. Remove the oil filler cap. (Refer to Lubrication System - "Oil Filter")
    2. Raise the vehicle and remove the engine undercover.
    3. Remove the drain plug (A) and drain the oil into a container.
  5. Replace the oil filter.
    1. Disconnect the oil filter cover from the oil filter housing (A).
    2. Remove the oil filter element.
    3. Inspect and clean the oil filter installation surface.
    4. Make sure the part number and shape of the new oil filter are the same as the old one.
    5. Install the new oil filter element (A) and a new O-ring (B). Apply clean engine oil to the new O-rings. Lightly thread the oil filter cover into place, then tighten it until the O-ring contacts the seat.
Check that the O-ring (A) is correctly installed inside the cover.
    6. Finally, retighten it to the specified torque.

      Tightening torque: 35 N·m

  6. Fill with new engine oil.
    1. Install the drain plug (A) with a new gasket.

      Tightening torque: 34.3 ~ 44 N·m

    2. Fill with new engine oil, and check the oil level with the dipstick. Total capacity: 6.5 L (6.87 US qt, 5.72 Imp qt, 1.72 US gal). Oil pan: 6 L (6.34 US qt, 5.28 Imp qt, 1.58 US gal). Drain and refill, including oil filter: 5.7 L (6.02 US qt, 5.01 Imp qt, 1.50 US gal)
      • Fill the engine about halfway, then wait and add the remaining oil.
      • Do not overfill the oil above the "F" line. Check the level frequently using the dipstick to prevent overfilling.
    3. Install the oil filler cap and the oil level dipstick.
  7. Start the engine and check that oil does not leak from the drain plug or oil filter.
  8. Recheck the engine oil level.

Inspection

  1. Check the engine oil condition. Check for oil deterioration, water or coolant contamination, discoloration, or dilution. If the condition is clearly poor, replace the oil.
  2. Check the engine oil level. After warming up the engine, and then 5 minutes after the engine is turned off, the oil level should be between the "L" and "F" marks on the dipstick. If the level is low, check for leaks and add oil up to the "F" mark.
Do not overfill the engine oil above the "F" mark.
Engine Oil Selection Recommendation
  • ACEA A5 or higher / 5W-30
Acceptable Oil Grade
  • ACEA A3 or higher
Allowable SAE Viscosity
For best performance and maximum protection in all types of operation, select only lubricants that:
  1. Meets ACEA classification requirements.
  2. Have the proper SAE viscosity grade for the expected ambient temperature range.
  3. Do not use lubricants whose container shows neither an SAE viscosity grade nor an ACEA service category.
