Description

The steering wheel angle sensor detects the direction of rotation of the steering wheel. The rotation direction detected by the sensor is transmitted to the HECU as a CAN signal including angle information via the CAN communication line. The HECU calculates the steering wheel angular speed and angle from this CAN signal. The HECU also uses this signal as an input signal for vehicle stability control.

Circuit Diagram
Calibration (Zero Angle Setting) The absolute type (CAN type) steering wheel angle sensor measures the angle based on the zero angle reference. Calibration must be performed in the following cases.
  • Steering Angle Sensor Replacement
  • Steering Column Replacement or Repair
  • DTC (C1260, C1261) Detection
  • Sensor Block Replacement
  • HECU Replacement
Calibration Procedure Perform a wheel alignment and set the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position within ±5°.
  1. Connect GDS (CAN line or OBD connector).
  2. Turn the ignition on.
  3. Press the steering angle sensor calibration button.
  4. Perform the HECU calibration procedure. (Calibration records, DTC erasure)
  5. Turn the ignition OFF after the calibration procedure.
  6. Check whether the calibration was successful or failed.
    • The warning lamp must not illuminate during the road test (left and right turns).
    • If an error occurs compared with the values of other sensors, the ESC OFF warning lamp illuminates.
