Keep Hands on Steering Wheel
If the driver takes their hands off the steering wheel for several seconds while HDA is active, the system will warn the driver.
✽ NOTICE
If the steering wheel is held with a light grip, the message may appear because HDA may not detect that the driver has hands on the steering wheel.
WARNING
The warning message may be delayed depending on road conditions. Therefore, always keep hands on the steering wheel while driving.
High Driving Assist (HDA) System Cancelled
If the driver still does not have their hands on the steering wheel after the "Keep Hands on Steering Wheel" message, HDA will be cancelled. However, if the Lane Following Assist system is manually re-activated by the driver, the High Driving Assist system will be re-activated.
To activate the Lane Following Assist system, refer to the "Lane Following Assist (LFA)" section in this chapter.
HDA will not be in the ENABLED state and/or steering assistance will not be provided when:
- The turn signal is activated before changing lanes. If you change lanes without activating the turn signal, the steering wheel may be controlled.
- The vehicle is not centered in the lane when the system is turned on or immediately after changing lanes.
- ESC (Electronic Stability Control) or VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) is activated.
- The vehicle is driving through a sharp curve.
- Vehicle speed exceeds 95 mph (153 km/h).
- The vehicle makes a sudden lane change.
- The vehicle brakes suddenly.
- Only one lane marking is detected.
- The lane is very wide or narrow.
- There are more than two lane markers on the road (for example, a construction area).
- The radius of the curve is too small.
- The vehicle is driving on a steep incline.
- The steering wheel is turned sharply.

This message indicates that there is a problem with the brake fluid reservoir. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
✽ NOTICE
- High Driving Assist is restricted in other countries.
- High Driving Assist operates only based on the highway speed limits, but it does not operate with speed cameras.
- A time gap may occur between the navigation speed warning and system operation.
- The system is not designed for use on highways other than those mentioned as controlled-access highways. The system is automatically cancelled when you exit the highway.
- If there is a problem with the High Driving Assist system, it cannot be activated on the Infotainment System screen.
- If your vehicle is within 1640 ft (500 m) ahead of and behind open railroad crossings, the system is automatically cancelled. In addition, it is automatically converted to Smart Cruise Control with a pop-up message on the navigation screen.
- In automatic speed mode, the vehicle automatically accelerates or decelerates when the highway speed limit changes.
- If your vehicle speed exceeds 153 km/h, High Driving Assist is automatically cancelled. In addition, it is automatically converted to Smart Cruise Control with a pop-up message on the navigation screen.
- If you enter a highway rest area or IC/JC (interchange/junction) without a destination set, the system is cancelled later than when the vehicle actually leaves the highway.
The High Driving Assist system may not operate properly in the following situations:
- The navigation system does not operate properly.
- The navigation map is not updated.
- Real-time GPS or map information is incorrect.
- The navigation system is overloaded by performing functions such as route search, video playback, voice recognition, etc. at the same time.
- The navigation system recalculates the route while driving.
- GPS signals are blocked in areas such as tunnels.
- The driver deviates from the route, or the destination route is changed or cancelled by resetting the navigation system.
- The vehicle enters a service area or rest area.
- The speed limit of the selected road section is changed due to road conditions.
- Android Auto or Apple CarPlay is in operation.
- The navigation system cannot detect the current position of the vehicle (for example, elevated roads including overpasses adjacent to general roads, or roads running parallel nearby).
- The navigation system is updated while driving.
- The navigation system is reset while driving.
- The road is slippery due to poor weather conditions such as rain or snow.
- If your vehicle is towing a trailer or another vehicle, you must turn off High Driving Assist. Operating the brake system or steering system while towing may adversely affect safety.
* Refer to the "Smart Cruise Control (SCC)" section in this chapter for warnings and cautions about traffic control and the front radar.
* Refer to the "Lane Following Assist (LFA)" section in this chapter for warnings and cautions about steering and the front view camera.
