Battery Charging
In this manual: Maintenance
~1min read
Your vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-free calcium-based battery.
- If the battery is discharged quickly (for example, because the headlights or interior lights were left on while the vehicle was not in use), charge it with a slow charge (trickle) for 10 hours.
- If the battery is gradually discharged due to high electrical load while the vehicle is in use, charge it at 20-30 A for two hours.
WARNING! Battery Charging
Observe the following precautions when charging the battery:
- The battery must be removed from the vehicle and placed in a well-ventilated area.
- Keep cigarettes, sparks and flames away from the battery.
- Monitor the battery during charging and stop or reduce the charging rate if the battery cells begin to gas (boil) excessively or if the electrolyte temperature of any cell exceeds 49 °C.
- Wear safety glasses when checking the battery during charging.
- Disconnect the battery charger in the following order.
1. Turn off the battery charger main switch.
2. Disconnect the negative clamp from the negative battery terminal.
3. Remove the positive clamp from the positive battery terminal. - Before performing maintenance or recharging the battery, turn off all accessories and stop the engine.
- When disconnecting the battery, the negative battery cable must be removed first and installed last.
CAUTION - AGM battery (if equipped)
- Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries are maintenance-free. We recommend that the AGM battery be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer. To charge your AGM battery, use only fully automatic chargers specifically designed for AGM batteries.
- When replacing the AGM battery, we recommend using replacement parts from an authorized Kia dealer.
- Do not open or remove the cover on the top of the battery. This may cause internal electrolyte leakage, which may result in serious injury.
