Curtain Airbag

~2min read

Side curtain airbags are located on both sides of the roof side rails above the front and rear doors.

They are designed to protect the heads of front and rear side outboard passengers in certain side impacts.

Curtain airbags are designed to deploy in certain side collisions, depending on the severity, angle, speed, and point of impact of the accident. Curtain airbags are not designed to deploy in all side impact situations, frontal or rear collisions, or in most rollover cases.

WARNING! Do not attach objects

  • Do not place any objects on top of the airbag cover. Also, do not attach any objects around the airbag deployment area, such as the door, side door glass, front and rear pillars, or side roof rail.
  • Do not hang hard or breakable objects on the coat hook.

WARNING

  • For the side airbags and curtain airbags to provide the best protection, both front seat occupants and both rear side occupants should sit upright with their seat belts properly fastened. Most importantly, children should sit in a proper child restraint system on the rear seat.
  • If children are seated in the rear side seats, they must be secured in a proper child restraint system. Be sure to install the child restraint system as far away from the door as possible and secure the child restraint in the locked position.
  • Do not allow passengers to lean their head or body against the doors, rest their arms on the doors, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the doors and passengers when they are seated in seats equipped with side and/or curtain airbags.
  • Never attempt to open or repair any components of the curtain airbag system. We recommend that the system be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.
Failure to follow the above instructions may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants in a crash.

Why didn't my airbag deploy in a collision? (Airbag Inflation and Non-Inflation Conditions)

There are many types of collisions in which the airbags are not expected to deploy. The airbags are designed to provide supplemental protection.

These include rear impacts, secondary or tertiary collisions in multiple impacts, and low-speed impacts.
