Precautions in the Engine Compartment (Diesel Engine)
In this manual: Maintenance
~2min read
- The injector operates at high voltage (up to 200 V). Therefore, the following accidents may occur.
- Direct contact with the injector or injector wiring may cause an electric shock or damage your muscular or nervous system.
- Electromagnetic waves from an operating injector may cause an artificial pacemaker to malfunction. - When checking the engine, follow the safety precautions below in the engine compartment while the engine is running.
- Do not touch the injector, injector wiring, or engine ECU while the engine is running.
- Do not disconnect the injector connector while the engine is running.
- People using artificial pacemakers should not approach the engine while it is being started or running.
WARNING – Diesel Engine
Never work on the injection system while the engine is running or within 30 seconds after the engine is stopped. The high-pressure pump, rail, injectors and high-pressure lines remain under high pressure even after the engine is stopped. Fuel spray produced by a fuel leak may cause serious injury if it contacts the body. People using artificial pacemakers must not approach within 30 cm of the ECU or engine wiring harness while the engine is running, as the large currents in the engine control system generate significant magnetic fields.
CAUTION
- Do not place heavy objects or apply excessive force to the upper part of the engine cover (if equipped) or to parts related to the fuel supply.
- When inspecting the fuel system (fuel lines and fuel injection devices), we recommend that you contact an authorized Kia dealer.
- Do not drive for extended periods with the engine cover removed (if equipped).
- When inspecting the engine compartment, keep away from fire. Fuel, washer fluid, etc. are flammable liquids that may cause a fire.
- Before touching the battery, ignition cables or electrical wiring, disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal. You may receive an electric shock from electric current.
- When removing the interior trim cover with a flat-blade screwdriver (-), be careful not to damage the cover.
- Be careful when replacing and cleaning the lamps to avoid burns or electric shock.
