Description and Operation

Description

  • The Front Impact Sensor (FIS) is installed in the Front End Module (FEM).

  • The FIS is a remote sensor that detects acceleration caused by a collision at its installation location.

  • The main purpose of the Front Impact Sensor (FIS) is to provide impact detection. The FIS sends acceleration data to the SRSCM.

Repair Procedures

Removal

[LH]

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Remove the air duct (A).

  3. Loosen the bolt and remove the Front Impact Sensor (FIS) (A).

    Tightening torque: 8.8–9.8 N·m

  4. Disconnect the front impact sensor connector (A).

[RH]

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Loosen the bolt and remove the Front Impact Sensor (FIS) (A).

    Tightening torque: 8.8–9.8 N·m

  3. Disconnect the front impact sensor connector (A).

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  2. After installing the Front Impact Sensor, check that the system operates correctly:

    Turn the ignition ON. The SRS indicator should illuminate for approximately six seconds, then turn off.
