Driving Your Vehicle

System Malfunction

~2min read

If the "Check System" warning appears, the system is not operating properly. In this case, take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer and have the system inspected.

WARNING

  • The Driver Attention Warning system does not replace safe driving practices. It is the driver's responsibility to always drive carefully and react to unexpected and sudden situations. Always pay attention to road conditions.
  • A driver who feels tired should take a break even if no break suggestion is given by the Driver Attention Warning system.

✽ NOTICE

A break may be suggested according to the driver's driving style or habits, even if the driver does not feel tired.

✽ NOTICE

The Driver Attention Warning system uses a camera sensor mounted on the windshield to operate. To keep the camera sensor in the best condition, observe the following:

- Do not disassemble the camera when installing window tint or applying any type of coating or accessories. If the camera is disassembled and reassembled, take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer and have the system inspected.
- Do not place reflective objects (such as white paper or a mirror) on top of the instrument panel. Any light reflection may prevent the Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system from operating.
- Take special care to keep the camera sensor free of water.
- Do not disassemble the camera assembly or apply any impact to the camera assembly.

• Playing the vehicle's audio system at high volume may mask the Driver Attention Warning system warning sounds.

CAUTION

The Driver Attention Warning system may not issue warnings in the following situations:

  • Lane detection performance is limited. (For more information, refer to the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System section in this chapter.)
  • The vehicle is driven erratically or turns sharply to avoid obstacles (for example, construction areas, other vehicles, fallen objects, or rough roads).
  • The vehicle's front steering response is significantly impaired (possibly due to large differences in tire pressure, uneven tire wear, or wheel alignment).
  • The vehicle is driven on a winding road.
  • The vehicle is driven on a bumpy road.
  • The vehicle is driven through a windy area.
  • The vehicle is equipped with the following driver assistance systems:
    - Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system
    - Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system
    - Smart Cruise Control (SCC) system

✽ NOTICE

The Driver Attention Warning system does not detect the driver's actual fatigue or drowsiness. The system monitors driving and provides a warning if it detects inattentive driving practices.
