Lubricant Specifications

~2min read

High-quality lubricants are essential for the service life and efficiency of the Kia Opirus. This chapter gives clear recommendations on viscosity, SAE grades and the correct applications, from engine oil to transmission fluid. It also emphasizes the importance of low-viscosity, energy-conserving oils for fuel economy. Choosing the right lubricants can reduce maintenance costs and prevent engine damage. Clean handling during an oil change, as described in this section, prevents dirt particles from entering sensitive vehicle components.

Recommended Lubricants

To achieve the best possible engine output and power transmission, as well as the longest possible service life of the engine and drivetrain, use only high-quality lubricants. Suitable lubricants contribute to better engine performance and thus to fuel savings.

Low-viscosity, energy-conserving oils are now available that, among other benefits, help reduce fuel consumption. Although these improvements are hard to measure in everyday driving, they can produce considerable fuel and cost savings over a longer period.

The following lubricants are recommended:

NOTE

Make sure the area around the oil filler cap, drain plug or dipstick is cleaned before checking the lubricant level or draining the fluid. The cleaning procedure prevents contaminants or foreign objects from entering the engine or other systems, where they could cause damage.

The viscosity (thickness) of the engine oil affects fuel consumption and operation at low temperatures (starting and oil film formation). Engine oils with lower viscosity can reduce fuel consumption and are better suited for operation at low temperatures. At higher temperatures, engine oils with higher viscosity are required.

Using engine oils with viscosities that are not recommended can cause engine damage.

When selecting engine oil, consider the temperature range in which the vehicle will be operated until the next oil change.

Select the appropriate viscosity from the following table.

1. For good fuel economy, the use of engine oil with SAE viscosity 5W-20 or 5W-30 (API SL / ILSAC GF-3) is recommended. If such engine oil is not available in your country, select an engine oil that meets the SAE specifications shown in the table.

The lubricant specifications for the Kia Opirus 2003–2011 are designed to ensure engine durability and performance. High-quality oils and greases reduce wear and improve fuel economy.

Selecting the correct engine oil by SAE viscosity and manufacturer approval is essential to prevent engine damage and to operate the Kia Opirus efficiently.

FAQ

Why should the recommended viscosity always be selected?
Only then is optimal lubrication and engine protection ensured.

What happens if the wrong oil is used?
It can cause increased wear and, in the worst case, engine damage.
