Maintenance

Owner Maintenance

~4min read

The Kia Opirus owner maintenance schedule allows vehicle owners to carry out important inspection tasks themselves on a regular basis. From checking the oil level to inspecting the lights, many items can be completed without a visit to the workshop. Safety is a key focus: warnings about hot coolant, moving components, or toxic substances are clearly highlighted. Owners who take their maintenance routine seriously improve not only the service life but also the safety of the vehicle.

Owner Maintenance Schedule

The inspection points listed below should be carried out by you at the specified intervals, or have them performed by a qualified technician. This helps ensure the reliable operation of your vehicle.

If you notice any irregularities, inform your dealer immediately and follow his professional recommendations.

The following owner maintenance items are generally not covered by warranty, so costs for labor, replacement parts, and lubricants may apply.

WARNING

When performing owner maintenance, observe the precautions in this chapter.

Check at every refueling stop:

- Engine oil level.

- Coolant level in the coolant reservoir.

WARNING

Be careful when checking the engine coolant.

Boiling hot coolant as well as hot steam can escape from the reservoir under pressure. There is a risk of scalding.

- Washer fluid level of the windshield washer system.

- Tire air pressure.

Observe while driving:

  • Pay attention to changes in exhaust noise and exhaust odor inside the vehicle.
  • Watch for vibrations in the steering wheel. Also watch for increasing steering effort, play in the steering, and a changing steering wheel position when driving straight ahead.
  • While driving on a level and even road surface, check whether the vehicle constantly pulls to one side.
  • When braking, watch for unusual noises, the vehicle pulling to one side, a longer brake pedal travel, and the need to press the brake pedal harder.
  • Check the automatic transmission fluid level if you notice irregularities during gear changes.
  • When the vehicle is stationary and the P (Park) position is selected, check that the vehicle is held securely.
  • Check the function of the parking brake.
  • Watch for leaking fluids under the vehicle (condensation water dripping after using the air conditioning is normal).

Check at least monthly:

  • Check the coolant level in the coolant reservoir.
  • Check the function of the exterior lights, including brake lights, turn signals, and hazard warning lights.
  • Check the tire air pressure of all tires, including the spare tire.

Check at least twice a year (e.g., in spring and autumn):

  • Check the radiator, heater, and air conditioning hoses for leaks and damage.
  • Check the function of the wiper blades and the windshield washer system.

Clean the wiper blades with a clean cloth dampened with glass cleaner.

  • Check the headlight alignment.
  • Check the exhaust pipes, mufflers, heat shields, and exhaust system mounting components.
  • Check all seat belts for wear and proper function.
  • Check all tires for wear and the wheel nuts for proper tightness.

Check at least once a year:

  • Clean the drain holes in the body and doors.
  • Grease the door hinges, door checkers, and hood hinges.
  • Lubricate all door and hood locks.
  • Apply care product to all door rubber seals.
  • Check the function of the air conditioning before the start of summer.
  • Check the power steering fluid level.
  • Check the power steering fluid level.
  • Clean the battery and the battery terminals.
  • Check the brake fluid level.

Precautions for Owner Maintenance

Insufficient or incomplete maintenance can lead to problems. This section only provides instructions for maintenance tasks that can be carried out easily.

As mentioned earlier in this section, various maintenance tasks may only be carried out by qualified technicians and with special tools.

NOTE

Insufficient owner maintenance during the warranty period could affect the warranty granted.

Please refer to the Warranty and Maintenance Booklet supplied with the vehicle for details. If you are unsure about a maintenance or repair procedure, have the work carried out by an authorized KIA dealer.

CAUTION - Maintenance Work
  • Carrying out maintenance on a vehicle can be dangerous. You could seriously injure yourself while performing various maintenance tasks. If you do not have sufficient technical knowledge, experience and/or suitable tools, have maintenance carried out by a qualified technician.
CAUTION - Maintenance Work
  • All work under the hood is dangerous when the engine is running. The risks increase if you wear jewelry or loose clothing. Jewelry and clothing could be caught by rotating components and cause serious injury. If you must work under the hood with the engine running, be sure to remove all jewelry before starting (especially rings, bracelets, watches, necklaces and chains). Also remove loose clothing (e.g. ties, scarves and shawls) before approaching the running engine or the cooling fans.

Owner maintenance of the Kia Opirus 2003–2011 allows the driver to regularly check the condition of the vehicle and detect deviations early. From fluid levels to lighting, every check contributes to safety.
