Occupant Detection System (ODS) Description

For normal airbag system operation, the SRSCM detects DTCs for the passenger occupant detection system. If the seat is occupied, the body sensor determines the occupant by measuring electrostatic capacitance and sends a signal to the SRSCM via CAN. The SRSCM recognizes 2 (two) different classifications: Class No. 1 (empty or child seat) and Class No. 2 (small, large). Using these signals, the ACU determines whether to deploy the PAB (passenger airbag) or not.
