Supplemental Restraint System Control Module (SRSCM) Description
The main purpose of the SRSCM (Supplemental Restraint System Control Module) is to distinguish between an event that requires deployment of the restraint system and an event that does not. The SRSCM must decide whether to apply restraints or not. After determining that the pretensioners and/or airbags must be deployed, the SRSCM must supply sufficient power to the pretensioners and airbag igniters to initiate deployment. The SRSCM determines that an impact may require deployment of the pretensioners and airbags based on data received from the impact sensors and other components in combination with the safing function. The SRSCM will not be ready to detect a collision or activate restraint system devices until the signals in the SRSCM circuit stabilize. It is possible for the SRSCM to activate restraint devices, but full functionality is guaranteed only after the check is completed. The SRSCM must perform a diagnostic procedure and illuminate the SRS warning light when the ignition is turned on. The system must perform continuous diagnostic procedures and provide a fault warning via the warning lamp if a malfunction is detected. A serial diagnostic communication interface will be used to facilitate maintenance of the restraint system control module. The yaw rate sensor and lateral G-sensor used in ESC are located inside the SRSCM. The sensor signal is transmitted via a dedicated CAN signal between the ESC control module and the SRSCM.
