Kia Sorento: SRSCM Variant Coding

After replacing the SRSCM with a new one, you MUST perform the "Variant Coding" procedure.

NOTE

In SRSCM variant coding mode, the airbag warning lamp flashes periodically (ON: 0.5 s, OFF: 0.5 s) until coding is normally completed.

If variant coding fails, DTC B1762 (ACU Coding Error) will be displayed and the warning lamp will flash. In this case, repeat the variant coding procedure after confirming the cause in "DTC Fault State Information". Variant coding can be performed up to 255 times; however, if the number of coding operations exceeds 255, DTC B1683 (Maximum Coding Count Exceeded) will be displayed and the SRSCM must be replaced.

If the battery voltage is low (less than 9 V), DTC B1102 will be displayed. In this case, charge the battery before doing anything else, then perform the variant coding procedure. Although variant coding is normally performed, DTC B1762 (ACU Coding Error) and B1102 (Low Battery Voltage) are displayed at the same time.

Variant Coding Procedure

■ On-Line Type in GDS

Ignition OFF, connect GDS.

With the ignition ON and engine OFF, select the vehicle name and the airbag system.

Select the variant coding mode.

Follow the on-screen instructions as shown below.
