Smart Key Precautions
- The smart key may not work if one of the following occurs: The smart key is near a radio transmitter, such as a radio station or airport, which may interfere with normal smart key operation. The smart key is near a two-way mobile radio system or cellular phone. The smart key of another vehicle operates near your vehicle.
- If the electronic key does not operate properly, open and close the door with the mechanical key and contact an authorized Kia dealer.
- If the smart key is in close proximity to your mobile phone or smartphone, the signal from the smart key may be blocked by normal operation of your cellular phone or smartphone. This is especially important when the phone is active, for example, making a call, receiving calls, texting, and/or sending/receiving emails. Do not place the smart key and mobile phone or smartphone in the same trouser or jacket pocket, and keep a sufficient distance between the devices.
CAUTION
Keep the smart key away from water or any other liquid. If the smart key system does not operate due to exposure to water or other liquids, it will not be covered by your vehicle manufacturer's warranty.
Smart Key Immobilizer System
Your vehicle is equipped with an electronic engine immobilizer system to reduce the risk of unauthorized use of the vehicle.
Your immobilizer system consists of a small transponder in the smart key and electronic devices inside the vehicle.
With the immobilizer system, whenever you turn the engine start/stop button to the ON position while carrying the smart key, the system checks and verifies whether the smart key is valid.
If the key is identified as valid, the engine will start.
If the key is not valid, the engine will not start.
To deactivate the immobilizer system:
Turn the engine start/stop button to the ON position while pressing the button and carrying the smart key.
To activate the immobilizer system:
Turn the engine start/stop button to the OFF position. The immobilizer system activates automatically.
Without a valid smart key for your vehicle, the engine will not start.
CAUTION
To prevent vehicle theft, do not leave spare keys anywhere in your vehicle. Your immobilizer password is a unique customer password and must be kept secret. Do not leave this number in the vehicle.
✽ NOTICE
When starting the engine, do not keep the key near other immobilizer keys. Otherwise, the engine may not start or may stall shortly after starting. Keep each key separate to avoid incorrect starting.
CAUTION
Do not place metal accessories near the smart key. The engine may not start because metal accessories can interrupt the transponder signal.
✽ NOTICE
If you need additional keys or have lost your keys, contact an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION
The transponder in the smart key is an important part of the immobilizer system. It is designed to provide many years of trouble-free operation; however, you must avoid exposure to moisture, static electricity, and rough handling. The immobilizer system may malfunction.
CAUTION
Do not alter, modify, or adjust the immobilizer system, as this may cause the immobilizer system to malfunction. It should be serviced only by an authorized Kia dealer. Malfunctions caused by improper changes, adjustments, or modifications to the immobilizer system are not covered by your vehicle manufacturer's warranty.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.

WARNING
