This system is designed to protect against unauthorized entry into the vehicle. The system operates in three stages: the first stage is "Armed," the second is "Theft Alarm," and the third is "Disarmed." If the alarm is triggered, the system sounds the horn and flashes the hazard warning lights.

Armed Stage

Park the vehicle and turn off the engine. Activate the system as described below.

1. Remove the key from the ignition switch and exit the vehicle.

2. Make sure all doors (and the liftgate) and the hood are closed and locked.

3. Lock the doors using the Smart Key System transmitter (or Smart Key) or the ignition key.

After performing the steps above, the hazard warning lights will flash once (with the Smart Key, the horn also sounds once) to indicate that the system is armed.

If any door (or the liftgate) or the hood remains open, the hazard warning lights and horn will not operate, and the theft alarm will not activate. If all doors (and the liftgate) and the engine hood are closed after pressing the lock button, the hazard warning lights will flash once.

The system can also be armed by locking the front doors with the key; however, when using this method, the hazard warning lights will not flash.

✽ NOTICE

The anti-theft alarm system can be deactivated at an authorized Kia dealer. If you need this function, contact an authorized Kia dealer.

Do not arm the system until all passengers have left the vehicle. If the system is armed while passengers remain in the vehicle, the alarm may be triggered when the remaining passengers exit the vehicle. If any door (or the liftgate) or the engine hood is opened within 30 seconds after the system enters armed mode, the system is disarmed to prevent unnecessary alarm activation.

Theft Stage

The alarm will be activated if any of the following occurs while the system is armed.

  • Opening the front or rear door without using the ignition key or transmitter (or Smart Key).
  • Opening the liftgate without using the transmitter (or Smart Key).
  • The hood is opened. The horn will sound and the hazard warning lights will flash continuously for approximately 27 seconds, and the horn will sound 3 times, if the system is not disarmed. To turn off the system, unlock the doors with the ignition key or transmitter (or Smart Key).

Disarmed stage

The system will be disarmed when the doors (and the liftgate) are unlocked using the transmitter (or Smart Key) or the ignition key.

After pressing the unlock button, the hazard warning lights will flash and the horn will sound twice (with the Smart Key), indicating that the system is disarmed.

After pressing the unlock button, if any door (or the tailgate) is not opened within 30 seconds, the system will re-arm.

✽ NOTICE

  • Do not attempt to start the engine while the security alarm is activated. The vehicle starter motor is disabled during the theft alarm stage. If the system is not disarmed with the transmitter, insert the key into the ignition switch, turn the ignition key to the ON position and wait 30 seconds. The system will then be disarmed. (If equipped)
  • If you have lost your keys, contact an authorized Kia dealer.

CAUTION

Do not alter, modify or adjust the security alarm system, as this may cause the security alarm system to malfunction. The system must be serviced only by an authorized Kia dealer. Malfunctions caused by improper changes, settings or modifications to the anti-theft alarm system are not covered by your vehicle manufacturer's warranty.
