Tire Replacement

1. Park on a level surface and firmly apply the parking brake.
2. Shift the shift lever to P (Park).
3. Turn on the hazard warning flashers.

4. Remove the wheel nut wrench, jack, and spare tire from the vehicle.
5. Block the front and rear wheel located diagonally from the jacking position.
WARNING - Jack Position
To avoid injury, use only the jack supplied with the vehicle and place it in the correct jacking position; never use any other part of the vehicle to support the jack.
WARNING - Tire Replacement
- To prevent the vehicle from moving during tire replacement, always apply the parking brake fully and always block the wheel diagonally opposite the one being replaced.
- We recommend blocking the vehicle's wheels and not allowing anyone to remain in the vehicle while it is raised with the jack.

6. Loosen each wheel nut counterclockwise by one turn, but do not remove any nut until the tire is off the ground.

7. Place the jack at the front (1) or rear (2) jacking position closest to the tire you are changing. Install the jack at the designated locations under the frame. The jacking positions are plates welded to the frame with a notch and a protrusion to align with the jack.

8. Insert the wheel nut wrench into the jack and turn it clockwise to raise the vehicle until the tire is just off the ground. This clearance is approximately 30 mm (1 in.).
Before removing the wheel nuts, make sure the vehicle is stable and there is no chance of movement or slipping.
9. Loosen the wheel nuts and remove them by hand. Slide the wheel off the studs and lay it flat so it cannot roll away. To install the spare wheel, lift it onto the hub, align the holes with the studs, and slide it onto them. If this is difficult, tilt the wheel slightly and align the upper hole with the upper stud. Rock the wheel back and forth until it slides over the other studs.
Wheels may have sharp edges. Handle them carefully to avoid possible serious injury. Before installing a wheel, make sure there is no foreign material (such as dirt, resin, gravel, etc.) on the hub or wheel that could prevent the wheel from seating firmly against the hub.
CAUTION - Wheel Installation
Make sure the wheel contacts the hub properly when installing it. If the seating surface between the wheel and hub is poor, the wheel nuts may loosen and the wheel may come off. Loss of a wheel may result in loss of vehicle control.
10. To install the wheel, hold it on the studs, place the wheel nuts on the studs, and tighten them by hand. Rock the tire to make sure it is seated fully, then tighten the nuts by hand again as far as possible.
11. Insert the wheel nut wrench into the jack and lower the vehicle to the ground by turning the wrench counterclockwise.

Position the wrench as shown in the illustration and tighten the wheel nuts. Make sure the socket is fully seated over the nut. Do not stand on the wrench handle or use an extension pipe on the wrench handle. Tighten each nut in the numerical sequence shown in the illustration, moving around the wheel, until all of them are tight. Check the tightness of each nut twice. After changing the wheel, have the wheel nuts tightened to the specified torque at an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.
Wheel nut tightening torque:
11~13 kgf·m, 107~127 N·m
If you have a tire pressure gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure. If the pressure is below the recommended level, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate to the correct pressure. If it is too high, release air until it is correct. Always install the valve cap after checking or adjusting tire pressure. If the cap is not installed, dust and dirt may enter the valve stem and air may leak from the tire. If you lose the valve cap, purchase a new one and install it as soon as possible.
After changing the wheel, always secure the flat tire in its place and return the jack and tools to their proper storage locations.
WARNING! Reusing Wheel Nuts
When removing a wheel, make sure the same nuts that were removed are reinstalled - or, if replaced, that nuts with metric threads and the same seat configuration are used. Your vehicle has metric threads on the wheel studs and nuts. Installing a non-metric nut on a metric stud will not secure the wheel to the hub properly and will damage the stud, so it must be replaced.
Note that most wheel nuts do not have metric threads. Always exercise extreme caution when checking the thread type before installing wheel nuts or wheels. If in doubt, consult an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING - Wheel Studs
If the studs are damaged, they may lose the ability to hold the wheel. This may result in loss of the wheel and a serious collision with injury.
To prevent the jack, wheel wrench, and spare tire from rattling while the vehicle is in motion, store them properly.
Check the tire pressure as soon as possible after installing the spare tire. If necessary, adjust it to the specified pressure. Refer to "Tires and Wheels" in Section 7.
Important - Using the Compact Spare Tire
Your vehicle is equipped with a compact spare tire. This compact spare tire takes up less space than a regular-size tire. This tire is smaller than a regular tire and is intended for temporary use only.
- When using a temporary spare tire, drive the vehicle carefully. The temporary spare tire should be replaced with a regular tire and wheel as soon as possible.
- It is not recommended to operate this vehicle with more than one temporary spare tire in use at the same time.
WARNING - Spare Tire
The temporary spare tire is intended for emergency use only. Do not drive the vehicle on the temporary spare tire at speeds greater than 80 km/h. The original tire should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible to avoid spare tire failure, which could result in personal injury or death.
The compact spare tire must be inflated to 420 kPa (60 psi).
✽ NOTICE
Check the tire pressure after installing the spare tire. Adjust it to the specified pressure if necessary.
When using the compact spare tire, observe the following precautions:
- Under no circumstances exceed a speed of 80 km/h; higher speed may damage the tire.
- Make sure you drive slowly enough for road conditions to avoid all hazards. Any road hazard, such as a pothole or debris, may seriously damage the temporary spare tire.
- Continued use of this tire on the road may cause it to fail, resulting in loss of vehicle control and possible injury.
- Do not exceed the vehicle's maximum load capacity or the load capacity shown on the sidewall of the compact spare tire.
- Avoid driving over obstacles. The compact spare tire has a smaller diameter than a regular tire and reduces ground clearance by approximately 25 mm (1 inch), which may cause damage to the vehicle.
- Do not wash this vehicle in an automatic car wash when the compact spare is installed.
- Do not use the compact spare tire on any other vehicle, because this tire was designed specifically for your vehicle.
- The tread life of the compact spare tire is shorter than that of a conventional tire. Inspect the compact spare tire regularly and replace worn compact spare tires with one of the same size and design, mounted on the same wheel.
- The temporary spare tire cannot be used on any other wheels. Standard tires, winter tires, wheel covers, or decorative rings cannot be used with the temporary spare tire. Attempting such use may result in damage to these items or other vehicle components.
- Do not use more than one compact spare tire at the same time.
- Do not tow a trailer while the compact spare tire is installed.
