Emergency Precautions

Tires

WARNING

Do not use tires and wheels of a different size and type than those originally installed on your vehicle. This may affect the safety and performance of your vehicle, which may result in difficult steering or rollover, which may lead to serious injury.

When replacing tires, make sure all four tires and wheels are of the same size, type, tread, brand, and load rating.

In an emergency, such as a flat tire, repair it temporarily using the TMK (Tire Mobility Kit). After this, the tire must be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING

Never start the engine if the all-wheel drive vehicle is raised on a jack. The vehicle may slip or roll off the jack, resulting in serious injury or death to those nearby.

Tow/Haul

All-wheel drive vehicles must be towed with a wheel lift and dolly or flatbed equipment with all wheels off the ground. For more information, see "Towing" in chapter 6.

Vehicle Inspection

  • When the vehicle is on a vehicle lift, do not use the front and rear wheels separately. All four wheels must be engaged.
  • Never apply the parking brake with the engine running on a vehicle lift. This may damage the all-wheel drive system.

Dynamometer Testing

The all-wheel drive vehicle must be tested on a special four-wheel dynamometer.

An all-wheel drive vehicle should not be tested on a chassis dynamometer designed for all-wheel drive vehicles. If a 2WD dynamometer must be used, follow this procedure:

1. Check the tire pressure recommended for your vehicle.

2. Place the rear wheels on the speedometer rollers, as shown in the illustration.

3. Release the parking brake.

4. Place the front wheels on the temporary free roller, as shown in the illustration.

WARNING

Keep away from the front of the vehicle when it is on the dynamometer. The vehicle may jump forward and cause serious injury or death.
