Repair Procedures

Replacement

Oil Seal (Main Shaft)

  1. Remove the transfer case assembly.

    (Refer to All-Wheel Drive (AWD) System - Transfer Case Assembly)

  2. Remove the seal (A) using a flat-tip screwdriver.

  3. Install a new seal using the special service tools (0K473-J5100, 09231-H1100).

  4. Install the transfer case assembly.

Oil Seal (Rear Flange)

  1. Remove the rear propeller shaft assembly.

    (Refer to Propeller Shaft and Axle - Rear Propeller Shaft Assembly)

  2. Remove the snap ring (A) using snap ring pliers.

  3. Remove the rear flange (A) using a puller.

  4. Remove the seal (A) using a flat-tip screwdriver.

  5. Install a new seal using the special service tools (0K473-J5200, 09231-H1100).

  6. Install the rear flange.

    1. Replace the O-ring (A) on the inside of the rear flange.

    2. Install the rear flange (A) on the transfer case until it stops.

  7. Install the snap ring.

    1. Measure the thickness of the removed snap ring.

    2. Select a snap ring of the same size as the removed one using the table below.

    3. Install a new snap ring (A) using snap ring pliers.

  8. Install the rear propeller shaft assembly.
