Description and Operation

Description

  • This system is designed to optimize driving performance by distributing driving force to the front and rear wheels, actively depending on road conditions and driving conditions.

① Electronically Controlled Driving Force Distribution

  • The amount of driving force transmitted to the front wheels is precisely adjusted by torque control of the electronically controlled AWD transfer case (multi-plate clutch), based on road conditions and driving conditions recognized from sensor signals input to the AWD ECU.

② Mutual Control with Vehicle Motion Control Systems

  • It achieves optimum driving performance through mutual control with brake systems such as ABS and VDC.

  • Driving force from the engine and transmission is transmitted to the transfer case, then to the rear differential through the propeller shaft. It is transmitted to the front differential through the propeller shaft when AWD operation is required.

  1. Transfer Case Structure

    • The AWD ECU distributes torque between the front and rear wheels by controlling the multi-plate clutch in the AWD transfer case, analyzing input information, i.e., wheel speed, accelerator pedal, and steering wheel angle, according to road conditions and driving style.

Repair Procedures

Adjustment

1. Introduction

Calibration data and vehicle variant code must be checked and entered when replacing the controller, as the internal friction material (clutch pack) characteristics change depending on driving.

2. Conditions for Performing and Calibration Method

  1. Only when replacing the transfer case (clutch) assembly.

  2. Only when replacing the ECU.

  3. When replacing the transfer case and ECU.

  4. Perform the following procedure if a malfunction code (P182900, P183600) occurs.
