Driving Your Vehicle

RCCW (Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning)

~3min read

When your vehicle is reversing from a parking position, the sensor detects approaching vehicles from the left or right side and provides information to the driver.

Operating Conditions

  • Select RCCW (Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning) in "User Settings" under "Driver Assistance" on the instrument cluster. The system will turn on and enter standby mode to activate.
  • Select RCCW again to turn the system off. • If the vehicle is turned off, the RCCW system will remember the last settings when restarted.
  • The system operates when the vehicle speed is below 10 km/h with the shift lever in the R (Reverse) position.
  • The RCCW (Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning) detection range is 0.5 m to 20 m (1.6 ft to 65 ft), depending on the direction from the side. If an approaching vehicle at a speed of 4 km/h to 36 km/h is within the detection range, it is detected. However, the sensitivity range of the system may vary depending on conditions. Always pay attention to your surroundings.

Warning Type

  • If a vehicle detected by the sensors approaches your vehicle, a warning chime will sound and the warning indicator on the outside rearview mirror will flash.
  • If the detected vehicle moves out of the detection zone in the opposite direction, or moves slowly, or if the vehicle is directly behind your vehicle, the warning is canceled if the other vehicle is not moving toward your vehicle.
  • The system may malfunction due to other factors or conditions. Always pay attention to your surroundings.

❈ If the left or right side bumper of your vehicle is blocked by a barrier or other vehicles, the detection function of the system may be limited.

WARNING

  • The Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning system does not replace proper driving procedures. Always drive safely and use caution when changing lanes or driving in reverse. The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning may not detect every object near the vehicle.
  • When the BCW system is activated, the warning light on the outside rearview mirror illuminates whenever the system detects a vehicle. To avoid accidents, do not focus only on the warning light and do not neglect the surroundings of the vehicle.
  • Drive safely even if your vehicle is equipped with the BCW (Blind-spot Collision Warning) system. Do not rely solely on the system; check yourself before changing lanes. The system may not warn the driver under some conditions, so always check the surroundings while driving.

✽ NOTICE

  • The system may not operate properly if the bumper has been replaced or if repair work has been performed near the sensor.
  • The detection area varies depending on the width of the road. If the road is narrow, the system may detect other vehicles in an adjacent lane.
  • If the road is very wide, the system may not detect other vehicles.
  • The system may turn off due to strong electromagnetic interference.

Warning Message

A message will appear to notify the driver if there is a foreign substance on or inside the rear bumper, or near the rear bumper is hot. The warning light on the switch illuminates, and the system turns off automatically.

Remove the foreign substance from the rear bumper.

After removing the foreign matter, if you drive for approximately 10 minutes, the system will operate normally.

If the system does not operate normally even after foreign substances, a trailer, a carrier, or other equipment are removed, have the system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

The message may appear even when there are no foreign substances on the rear bumper, for example when driving in rural areas or open terrain such as deserts, where there is insufficient data for operation.

This message may also be activated during heavy rain or due to road spray. In this case, the vehicle does not require service.

When a cargo compartment or other equipment is used, turn all system functions to [OFF].

If the system does not operate properly, a warning message will appear and the indicator on the switch will turn off. The system will turn off automatically.

In this case, have the system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

Malfunction

The outside rearview mirror may not warn the driver if:

- The outside rearview mirror housing is damaged or covered with debris.
