General Information

TOWING

If the vehicle must be towed, a professional towing service should be used. Never use only a rope or chain to tow the vehicle, as this is very dangerous.

EMERGENCY TOWING

There are three common methods of towing a vehicle:

  • Flatbed truck: towing on the bed of a truck is the best way to transport the vehicle.

  • Wheel lift: the tow truck uses two lifting arms that raise the wheels. This lifts the drive axle of the vehicle off the ground. The other two wheels remain on the ground.

  • Hook and chain: the tow truck uses metal cables with hooks. These hooks grip frame or suspension parts. The vehicle is lifted using the cables. The suspension and body may be seriously damaged if this towing method is used.

If the vehicle cannot be transported on a flatbed, it must be lifted by the drive wheels for towing. Proceed as follows:

Manual transaxle

  • Release the parking brake.

  • Set the transmission to neutral.

Automatic transmission

  • Release the parking brake.

  • Start the engine.

  • First shift the selector to [D], then to [N].

  • Turn off the engine.
