Description and Operation
Description
Exhaust emission control consists of three main systems.
The crankcase ventilation system prevents blow-by gases from escaping into the atmosphere. This system returns the gas to the intake manifold (closed crankcase ventilation).
The evaporative emission control system prevents fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. This system burns the collected gas under appropriate engine operating conditions after it has been stored in the charcoal canister.
Exhaust gas purification converts the three pollutants [hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx)] into harmless substances using a three-way catalytic converter.

Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause |
| Engine does not start or has starting problems | Vacuum hose damaged or pinched |
| Hard engine start | Purge valve malfunction |
| Rough idle or engine stalls | Vacuum hose damaged or pinched |
| PCV valve malfunction | |
| Rough idle | Evaporative emission control system malfunction |
| Excessive Oil Consumption | Crankcase ventilation line blocked |
