Electrical System
General Information
GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION
BEFORE TROUBLESHOOTING
Test the affected fuses in the corresponding fuse/relay box.
Test the battery for damage, state of charge, cleanliness and connection security.
D 1.6 U2 TCI (See Engine Electrical System — "Charging System")
G 1.0 T-GDI KAPPA (See Engine Electrical System — "Charging System")
G 1.2 MPI KAPPA (See Engine Electrical System — "Charging System")
G 1.4 MPI KAPPA (See Engine Electrical System — "Charging System")
Make sure the alternator drive belt (D) is properly tensioned.
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
Make sure the cable connectors are clean and that the connector terminals are not pushed out of their cavities.
Apply electrical grease to the back of the multi-plug to keep it sealed (except for waterproof plugs).
All connectors have a lock (A) that is released when pressed.

Some connectors have a clip on the side to attach them to the body or other components. To release these clips, the release lever must be pulled upward.
To disconnect some connectors with a mounting clip, first release the latch and disconnect the connector from the bracket (A).

When disconnecting connectors, never pull on the cables; pull on the connector halves.
Plastic covers removed beforehand must always be reinstalled.

Make sure the holder (A) and rubber sealing rings (B) are not loose.

The rear of some connectors is sealed with electrical grease. If necessary, top up or replace contaminated grease (A).

When connecting, fully assemble the connector halves and make sure the lock engages firmly.
Always route the cable so that the open side of the cover faces downward.

CABLE AND WIRING HARNESS HANDLING
Secure cables and wiring harnesses to the designated safe locations with the appropriate cable ties.
Carefully separate the cable holder clips, not the locks (A), to avoid damage.

Insert pliers (A) under the base of the clip and through the opening at an angle, then squeeze the extension tabs to release the clip.

After installing cable clips, make sure the wiring harness cannot contact moving components.
Keep wiring harnesses away from the exhaust system and other hot components. Keep them away from sharp edges, hole edges and protruding screws or bolts.
Insert cable grommets (A) correctly into the holes. Do not leave cable grommets twisted (B).

INSPECTION AND REPAIR
Do not use cables or wiring harnesses with damaged insulation.
Replace cables or wiring harnesses with damaged insulation, or repair them by wrapping with suitable insulating tape.
When installing components, always make sure the cables are not pinched or damaged.
When using electrical measuring equipment, follow the manufacturer's instructions and the instructions in this Kia Stonic manual.
Whenever possible, connect the test probe from the cable side to the terminal being tested (except for waterproof cable connectors).

Use conical-tipped test probes.
Refer to the cable repair kit user manual (publication number: TRK 015).

FIVE-STEP TROUBLESHOOTING PROCESS
Verify the customer complaint
Check all components in the affected circuit to confirm the customer complaint. Note the symptoms. Begin disassembly or testing only after the problem area has been narrowed down.
Circuit Analysis
Identify the faulty circuit on the wiring diagram.
Determine the circuit function by tracing the current waveform from the voltage source through all components to ground. If several circuits are affected at the same time, a fuse or ground is the likely cause.
Using the symptoms and understanding of the wiring diagram, identify one or more possible causes of the fault.
Isolate the Problem by Testing the Circuit
Perform circuit checks to confirm the diagnosis made in step 2. Check carefully. Remember that logical and simple procedures are the basis of effective troubleshooting.
First, check the most likely cause of the malfunction. At this stage, the inspection should be carried out at easily accessible locations.
Eliminate the cause of the malfunction
After identifying the specific cause of the failure, repair the affected system. Use the proper tools and apply safe working procedures.
confirmation inspection
Operate all components of the malfunctioning circuit to make sure that the entire problem has been resolved. Check whether a fuse has blown; be sure to check all circuits connected to that fuse. Make sure that no new problems occur and that the original problem does not recur.
reset the battery
Description
If the battery cable is reconnected after it was previously disconnected, if the battery was discharged and then recharged, or if memory backup was removed, always reset the systems listed in the table below.
In addition, when replacing or reinstalling fuses after they have been removed, they must be reset as specified in the table below. While waiting, refer to the table below.
| SYSTEM | reset |
| Power Windows | If the window cannot be closed or opened properly, or if the battery is discharged or a blown fuse has been replaced or reinstalled, reset the power window system as described below.
|
| SUNROOF | Whenever the battery is disconnected or discharged, or when the emergency handle is used to open or close the sunroof, the sunroof system can be reset as follows:
|
| trip computer | If the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the trip computer settings are initialized. Therefore, the customer must be informed of this. |
| Clock | If the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the clock will be initialized. Therefore, the clock must be set again. (Refer to the Owner's Manual) |
| AUDIO | If the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the radio presets will be initialized to the default settings. Therefore, record the customer's radio presets before service and restore them after service. |
| heating and ventilation air conditioning |
If the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the heating and air conditioning system will be initialized. Therefore, the heating and air conditioning must be reset. |
