To apply the parking brake, first depress the foot brake, then, without pressing the release button, pull the parking brake lever up as far as it will go. In addition, when parking the vehicle on a slope, the shift lever should be placed in the appropriate low gear for vehicles with a manual transmission, or in the P (Park) position for vehicles with an automatic transmission.

CAUTION

  • Driving with the parking brake applied will cause excessive brake pad (or lining) and brake rotor wear.
  • Do not use the parking brake while the vehicle is moving unless in an emergency. This may damage the vehicle's system and make driving unsafe.
