Your vehicle is equipped with side airbags located in each of the two front seats. The purpose of the airbag is to provide additional protection, in addition to that offered by the seat belts, to the driver and/or front passenger.

Side airbags are designed to deploy only in certain side impacts, depending on the severity, angle, speed and point of impact. Side airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact.

WARNING Do not allow passengers seated in positions with side and/or curtain airbags to rest their heads against the door, place their arms on the door, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between themselves and the door.

WARNING

  • Side airbags are supplementary to the seat belts and not a substitute for them. Therefore, seat belts must always be worn while driving. Side airbags deploy only in side impacts of a severity that puts the occupants' safety at risk.
  • For side airbags to provide maximum protection to front seat occupants and not cause injury, occupants must sit upright with their seat belts properly fastened. The driver must keep both hands on the steering wheel at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions. The passenger must keep their hands and arms resting on their lap.
  • Do not use seat covers.
  • Seat covers may reduce, or even cancel, the effectiveness of the system.
  • Do not install any foreign object on or near the sides of the airbag.
  • Do not place any object above the airbag or between the airbag and yourself.
  • Do not place objects (umbrellas, bags, etc.) between the doors and the front seats. If the side airbag deploys, some objects could become dangerous projectiles and cause serious injury.
  • To prevent accidental side airbag deployment that could cause personal injury, do not subject the side sensor to impacts when the ignition switch is in the ON position.
  • If the seat or its trim is damaged, have inspections and repairs performed by an authorized Kia dealer.

Inform them that the vehicle is equipped with side airbags.
