Description and Operation
Description
The ECM (electrochromic inside rearview mirror) automatically darkens to protect the driver's eyes when it detects glare reflected from the vehicle behind. A sensor in the mirror measures brightness, and if the headlights of the vehicle behind reflect onto the mirror, the chemical layer inside the mirror reacts to the glare and adjusts the reflectance from 10 to 70%. When shifting into reverse, the mirror becomes bright regardless of surrounding conditions. The ECM receives power, ground and reverse signals and uses two sensors to measure glare intensity.- The forward-facing sensor determines whether the surrounding area is dark enough to activate the function.
- The rear-facing sensor detects glare on the mirror. If glare is detected, the sensor sends a signal to dim the mirror.
- The ECM dims to the level determined by the rear-view sensor. When glare is no longer detected, the mirror stops operating. (1. LED indicator, 2. ON/OFF switch, 3. Rear-view sensor, 4. Front-view sensor)

Auto-Dimming Function
To protect your vision during night driving, your mirror will automatically dim when glare from vehicles behind you is detected. The auto-dimming function can be controlled with the dimming function ON/OFF button:- Press and hold the function control button for more than 3 but less than 6 seconds to turn off the auto-dimming function, indicated by the green status LED going off.
- Press and hold the function control button again for more than 3 but less than 6 seconds to turn on the auto-dimming function, indicated by the green status LED lighting up.
Repair Procedures
Inspection
Check it by performing the procedure below to verify that the ECM is operating normally.- Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
- Cover the front sensor.
- Direct light onto the rear-facing sensor.
- The ECM dims as soon as the rear-facing sensor detects a specified brightness level.
- When the reverse gear is engaged, the ECM does not dim. When light is directed at both the front-facing and rear-facing sensors, the ECM must not dim.
Removal
- Remove the mirror wiring cover (A) and disconnect the mirror connector (B).

- Remove the mirror (A) by pulling it upward in the direction indicated by the arrow below.

Installation
- When installing the mirror, be careful not to damage the mounting bracket.
- Install the mirror wiring cover after reconnecting the connector and tightening the screw.
