Cluster Variant Coding
As more options (ESC, MDPS, etc.) are equipped on the vehicle, the instrument cluster now displays additional information depending on the selected options. For this reason, it is necessary to know which options the vehicle has when replacing the instrument cluster. To solve this problem, a training course based on the required variant for the vehicle is performed when replacing the instrument cluster. This is called variant coding.
Repair Procedures
Removal
- Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Remove the cluster fascia panel. (Refer to Body - Instrument Panel)
- Separate the instrument cluster (A) after loosening the mounting screws.

- Remove the instrument cluster after disconnecting the instrument cluster connectors (A).

Installation
- Install the cluster after connecting the cluster connectors.
- Install the cluster fascia panel.
- Connect the negative (-) battery terminal.

2. Wiring Malfunction - Body electrical system malfunctions can be quickly diagnosed using the vehicle diagnostic system (KDS/GDS). The diagnostic system (KDS/GDS) provides the following information.
- Self-Diagnosis: Checks malfunction and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
- Current Data: Check the system input/output status.
- Actuation Test: Check the system operating status
- Additional Functions: Controls other functions, including system parameter setting and zero point adjustment.
- Select "Vehicle Model" and "Cluster Module (CLU)" to check the vehicle with the tester.
- Select the "Current Data" menu to check the current input/output status.

- To forcibly activate the input value of the module under test, select the "Active Test" option.

- Connect the KDS/GDS cable to the data link connector at the lower panel on the driver's side, then turn on the KDS/GDS.
- Select the model and "BCM".
- Select Variant Coding mode to perform.

- If trouble codes occur while performing variant coding, check the CLU installation status and then retry the CLU variant coding.

After replacing the cluster with a new one, perform the "Variant Coding" procedure.
