Ignition switch positions

Posizioni del commutatore d'accensione

LOCK The steering wheel is locked to prevent theft. The ignition key can only be removed in the LOCK position.

When turning the ignition switch to the LOCK position, push the key in towards ACC, then turn it to LOCK.

ACC (Accessory) The steering wheel is unlocked and the electrical accessories are enabled.

NOTE If the key is difficult to turn to the ACC position, turn the steering wheel left and right, then turn the key.

ON Before starting the engine, this position allows you to check the warning lights. This is the normal driving position after the engine has started.

To prevent battery discharge, do not leave the ignition switch in the ON position when the engine is off.

START Turn the ignition key to the START position to start the engine. The starter motor keeps turning as long as the key is held in this position; when released, the key returns to the ON position. In this position you can check the brake warning light.

WARNING - Ignition switch

  • Never turn the ignition switch to the LOCK or ACC position while the vehicle is moving. This would cause loss of steering control and brake servo assistance, with a risk of accident.
  • The steering lock is not a substitute for the parking brake. Before leaving the driver's seat, always move the selector lever to P (Park) for automatic transmission, fully apply the parking brake and switch off the engine. If these precautions are not observed, the vehicle may move unexpectedly.
  • Never reach for the ignition switch, or other controls, by passing your hand between the spokes of the steering wheel while the vehicle is moving. Having your hand or arm in this area could cause loss of vehicle control, with a risk of serious or even fatal injury.
  • Do not place loose objects around the driver's seat, as they may move while driving, obstruct the driver and cause accidents.
