Engine start/stop button
ENGINE START/STOP button illuminated

Each time the front door is opened, the ENGINE START/STOP button illuminates for convenience. The light will turn off approximately 30 seconds after the door is closed.
ENGINE START/STOP button positions
OFF
- With manual transmission To turn off the engine (START/RUN position) or the ignition (ON position), stop the vehicle and press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
- With automatic transmission To turn off the engine (START/RUN position) or the ignition (ON position), press the ENGINE START/STOP button with the shift lever in P (Park).
In addition, when the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the OFF position, the steering lock is engaged to protect the vehicle from possible theft attempts. The lock engages when the door is opened or when the smart key is removed from its slot.
If the steering wheel is not properly locked when the driver's door is opened, the buzzer will sound. Try locking the steering wheel again.
If the problem persists, have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
Additionally, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the OFF position after the driver's door has been opened, the steering wheel will not lock and the buzzer will sound. In this situation, close the door. The steering wheel will then lock and the buzzer will stop.
NOTE If the steering wheel is not properly locked, the ENGINE START/STOP button will not function. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button while turning the steering wheel left and right to unlock it.
- If it is difficult to turn the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ACC position, turn the steering wheel from side to side while pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button.
- When the engine is turned off, the vehicle should come to a stop.
ACC (Accessory)
- With manual transmission Press the ENGINE START/STOP button while in the OFF position, without pressing the clutch pedal.
- With automatic transmission Press the ENGINE START/STOP button while in the OFF position, without pressing the brake pedal.
The steering wheel is unlocked and the electrical accessories are enabled.
If the ENGINE START/STOP button remains in the ACC position for more than 1 hour, it will automatically switch to the OFF position to prevent the battery from discharging.
ON
- With manual transmission Press the ENGINE START/STOP button while in the ACC position, without pressing the clutch pedal.
- With automatic transmission Press the ENGINE START/STOP button while in the ACC position, without pressing the brake pedal.
START/RUN

- With automatic transmission To start the engine, press the brake pedal, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button with the shift lever in P (Park) or N (Neutral). For safety reasons, start the engine with the shift lever in P (Park).
NOTE If the ENGINE START/STOP button is pressed without pressing the clutch pedal (manual transmission) or the brake pedal (automatic transmission), the engine will not start and the ENGINE START/STOP button will switch in the following sequence: OFF ➔ ACC ➔ ON ➔ OFF or ACC
NOTE If the ENGINE START/STOP button is left in the ACC or ON position for too long, the battery will discharge.
WARNING
- Never press the ENGINE START/STOP button while the vehicle is moving. This would cause loss of steering control and brake booster assistance, with a risk of an accident.
- The steering lock is not a substitute for the parking brake. Before leaving the driver's seat, always place the selector lever in P (Park), fully apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
If these precautions are not observed, the vehicle could unexpectedly move.
