~3min read

Before getting in

  • Make sure all windows, outside mirrors and lights are clean.
  • Check the condition of the tyres.
  • Check underneath the vehicle for signs of leaks.
  • Before reversing, make sure there are no obstacles behind the vehicle.

Required inspections

Fluid levels, such as engine oil and coolant, brake fluid and washer fluid, must be checked regularly at the correct interval for each of them. Further details are given in chapter 7, "Maintenance".

WARNING A moment's distraction while driving could cause you to lose control of the vehicle and result in an accident with the risk of serious or even fatal personal injury. It is the driver's responsibility to operate the vehicle safely and in compliance with the law, and to avoid using any device that requires the use of your hands, that may distract the driver, or that is prohibited by law.

Before moving off

  • Close and lock all doors.
  • Adjust the seat so that all controls are easily reachable.
  • Adjust the inside and outside rear-view mirrors.
  • Make sure all lights work.
  • Check all gauges.
  • With the ignition key in ON, check that all warning lights work.
  • Release the parking brake and check that its warning light goes off.

For safe use, familiarise yourself with the vehicle and its equipment in advance.

WARNING Before starting the vehicle, all passengers must correctly fasten their seat belts. For more information on their correct use, refer to "Seat belts" in chapter 3. WARNING Before shifting into D (Drive) or R (Reverse), always make sure there are no people around the vehicle, especially children. WARNING - Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs Driving after drinking is dangerous. Drunk driving is the leading cause of death on rural roads every year. Even a small amount of alcohol affects a driver's reflexes, perception and judgment. Driving under the influence of drugs is as dangerous as, or more dangerous than, driving after drinking.

Driving after drinking or taking drugs greatly increases the likelihood of a serious accident.

If you have been drinking or taking drugs, do not drive. Do not ride with a driver who has been drinking or taking drugs.

Choose a driver you trust or call a taxi.

WARNING

  • If you intend to park or stop the vehicle with the engine running, take care not to press the accelerator pedal for too long. The engine or exhaust system may overheat and cause a fire.
  • During sudden braking or sharp turns, objects that are not secured firmly may fall onto the floor and interfere with the operation of the pedals, causing a risk of accident. Stow items inside the vehicle securely.
  • Lack of proper attention while driving may cause accidents. Be careful when operating systems that may distract your attention, such as the audio system or the heater. It is the driver's responsibility to always drive safely.
