Tire Replacement

1. Park on a level surface and firmly apply the parking brake.
2. Move the shift lever to R (Reverse) with a manual transmission, or P (Park) with an automatic transmission / dual clutch transmission / intelligent variable transmission.
3. Turn on the hazard warning flashers.

4. Remove the wheel nut wrench, jack, jack handle and spare tire from the vehicle.
5. Chock the front and rear wheels diagonally opposite the jack position.
WARNING
Tire Replacement
- To prevent the vehicle from moving during tire replacement, always apply the parking brake fully and always block the wheel diagonally opposite the one being replaced.
- We recommend chocking the vehicle wheels and not allowing anyone to remain in the vehicle while it is raised with the jack.

6. Loosen each wheel nut counterclockwise by one turn, but do not remove any nut until the tire is off the ground.

7. Place the jack at the front (1) or rear (2) jacking position closest to the tire you are replacing. Install the jack at the designated locations under the frame. The jacking positions are plates welded to the frame with two protrusions and an indexing point for the jack.
WARNING
Jacking Point Location
To avoid injury, use only the jack supplied with the vehicle and in the correct jacking position; never use any other part of the vehicle to support the jack.
8. Insert the jack handle into the jack and turn it clockwise to raise the vehicle until the tire is off the ground. This distance is approximately 30 mm (1.2 in). Before removing the wheel nuts, make sure the vehicle is stable and there is no chance of movement or slipping.

9. Loosen the wheel nuts and remove them by hand. Pull the wheel off the studs and lay it flat so it cannot roll away. To install the wheel on the hub, lift the spare wheel, align the holes with the studs, and place the wheel onto them.
If this is difficult, tilt the wheel slightly and align the upper wheel hole with the upper stud. Then rock the wheel back and forth until it can be fitted over the other studs.
WARNING
Wheels may have sharp edges. Handle them carefully to avoid possible serious injury. Before installing the wheel, make sure there is no foreign material on the hub or wheel (such as dirt, resin, gravel, etc.) that could prevent the wheel from seating tightly against the hub.
If there is, remove it. If there is no proper contact at the mounting surface between the wheel and hub, the wheel nuts may loosen and the wheel may come off. Loss of a wheel may cause loss of vehicle control, resulting in serious injury or death.
10. To reinstall the wheel, hold it against the studs, place the wheel nuts on the studs, and tighten them by hand. Rock the tire to make sure it is fully seated, then tighten the nuts by hand again as far as possible.
11. Lower the vehicle to the ground by turning the wheel nut wrench counterclockwise.

Then position the wrench as shown in the illustration and tighten the wheel nuts. Make sure the socket is fully seated on the nut. Do not stand on the wrench handle or use an extension tube on the wrench handle. Tighten the wheel nuts in a crisscross pattern, every other nut, until all of them are tightened. Then check the tightness of each nut twice. After replacing the wheel, have the system checked at a specialized workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
Wheel nut tightening torque:
Steel wheel and aluminum alloy wheel: 11~13 kgf·m (79~94 lbf·ft)
If you have a tire pressure gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure. If the pressure is lower than recommended, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate to the correct pressure. If it is too high, release air until it is correct. Always install the valve cap after checking or adjusting tire pressure. If the cap is not installed, air may leak from the tire. If you lose the valve cap, buy a new one and install it as soon as possible.
After replacing the wheel, always secure the flat tire in its place and return the jack and tools to their proper storage locations.
CAUTION
Your vehicle has metric threads on the wheel studs and wheel nuts. When removing a wheel, make sure the same nuts are reinstalled, or, when replacing a nut, use one with metric threads and the same seat configuration. Installing a non-metric nut on a metric stud, or vice versa, will not properly secure the wheel to the hub and will damage the stud. Damaged studs must be replaced.
Note that most wheel nuts do not have metric threads. Be sure to use the correct nuts. Carefully check the thread type before installing the wheel nuts or wheels. If in doubt, consult a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
WARNING
Wheel Studs
If the studs are damaged, they may lose the ability to hold the wheel. This may result in loss of the wheel and a serious collision with injury.
To prevent rattling of the jack, jack handle, wheel nut wrench, and spare tire while the vehicle is in motion, store them properly.
WARNING
Insufficient Spare Tire Pressure
Check the tire inflation pressure as soon as possible after installing the spare tire. If necessary, adjust it to the specified pressure. See "Tires and Wheels" on page 8-48.
Important – Use of Compact Spare Tire (if equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with a compact spare tire. This compact spare tire takes up less space than a regular-size tire. This tire is smaller than a regular tire and is intended for temporary use only.
CAUTION
- When using the compact spare tire, drive carefully. The compact spare tire should be replaced with a regular tire and wheel as soon as possible.
- It is not recommended to operate this vehicle with more than one compact spare tire in use at the same time.
WARNING
The temporary spare tire is intended for emergency use only. Do not drive the vehicle on the temporary spare tire at speeds greater than 80 km/h. The original tire should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible to avoid spare tire failure, which could result in personal injury or death.
The compact spare tire must be inflated to 420 kPa (60 psi).
NOTICE
Check the tire pressure after installing the spare tire. Adjust it to the specified pressure if necessary.
When using the compact spare tire, observe the following precautions:
- Under no circumstances exceed a speed of 80 km/h; higher speed may damage the tire.
- Make sure you drive slowly enough to avoid all hazards. Any road hazard, such as a pothole or debris, may seriously damage the compact spare tire.
- Continued use of this tire on the road may cause it to fail, resulting in loss of vehicle control and possible injury.
- Do not exceed the vehicle's maximum load capacity or the load capacity shown on the sidewall of the compact spare tire.
- Avoid driving over obstacles. The diameter of the compact spare tire is smaller than that of a regular tire, and it reduces ground clearance by approximately 2.5 cm (1 in), which may cause damage to the vehicle.
- Do not wash the vehicle through an automatic car wash when the compact spare tire is installed.
- Do not use snow chains on the temporary compact spare tire. Due to its smaller size, the snow chain will not fit properly. This may damage the vehicle and cause the chain to come loose.
- The temporary compact spare tire must not be installed on the front axle if the vehicle is to be driven on snow or ice.
- Do not use the temporary compact spare tire on any other vehicle, as this tire is designed specifically for your vehicle.
- The tread life of the temporary compact spare tire is shorter than that of a regular tire. Check the temporary compact spare tire regularly and replace it when worn. Use tires of the same size and design on the same axle.
- Do not use the temporary compact spare tire on any other wheel, and do not use standard tires, winter tires, wheel covers or decorative rings with the temporary compact spare tire. Attempting such use may damage these parts or other vehicle components.
- Do not use more than one temporary compact spare tire at the same time.
- Do not tow a trailer while the temporary compact spare tire is installed.
