Installing Child Seats
The door control system in the Lexus GS (2016–2020) offers versatile functions for convenience and safety: automatic door locking when driving off, child locks and an intelligent emergency release in the event of an accident are part of the equipment. This chapter explains how these systems can be optimally used and individually adjusted. Notes on mechanism care and correct operation help keep your Lexus GS safe and comfortable at all times.
Follow the child seat manufacturer's instructions. Secure child seats properly with a seat belt or the ISOFIX anchors on the seat. When installing the child seat, attach the top tether.
Seat belts (an ELR seat belt requires a locking clip)

ISOFIX anchors
The outer rear seats have lower anchorages. (The seats have buttons indicating the anchorage positions.)

Tether anchors (for the top tether) The outer rear seats are equipped with tether anchors.

WARNING
When installing a child seat
Follow the instructions in the child seat installation manual and install the child seat correctly.
If the child seat is not installed correctly, the child or other occupants may be seriously or even fatally injured in sudden braking, a sudden evasive maneuver or an accident.
- If the driver's seat obstructs the child seat and prevents correct installation, install the child seat on the right rear seat (vehicles with left-hand steering) or on the left rear seat (vehicles with right-hand steering).
- Adjust the front passenger seat so that it does not obstruct the child seat.

- Only install a forward-facing child seat on the front seat in exceptional cases. If a forward-facing child seat is to be installed on the front passenger seat, move the seat as far back as possible. Otherwise, the airbags may cause fatal or serious injuries when they deploy (inflate).

WARNING
When installing a child seat
- Never use a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat when the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is set to "ON". The force of the rapidly inflating passenger airbag can cause the child to suffer fatal or serious injuries in an accident.

- A label on the passenger sun visor indicates that it is prohibited to install a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat. The illustration below shows the label in detail.

WARNING
When installing a child seat
- If there are regulations regarding child seats in your country, contact a Lexus dealer or authorized repairer, or another qualified and properly equipped workshop for installation.
- When installing a junior seat, always make sure that the shoulder belt runs across the center of the child's shoulder. The belt must not lie against the neck or slip off the child's shoulder. Otherwise, sudden braking, a sudden evasive maneuver or an accident may result in fatal or serious injuries.
- Make sure the belt tongue is properly latched in the buckle and the seat belt is not twisted.
- Pull on the child seat and try to move it left and right, as well as forward and backward, to make sure it is installed correctly.
- Never readjust the seat after installing the child seat.
- Follow all installation instructions provided by the child seat manufacturer.
How to properly secure a child seat to the anchors
When using the lower anchors, make sure there are no foreign objects near the anchors and that the seat belt is not trapped behind the child seat. Make sure the child seat is securely installed.
Otherwise, in sudden braking, a sudden evasive maneuver or an accident, there is a risk of fatal or serious injury to the child or other occupants.
The instructions for installing child seats in the Lexus GS (4th gen) show how important correct installation is for safety. Whether using the seat belt or ISOFIX anchors, Lexus provides clear instructions for both methods, helping to maximize the safety of young passengers. Correct use of the top tether is especially important.
These practical tips make it easy to secure the child seat safely and avoid potential risks. With this, the Lexus GS underlines its commitment to being a family-friendly and safe vehicle.
FAQWhy is the top tether important for child seats?
The top tether prevents the child seat from tipping forward, which increases stability and safety in an accident.
Can all child seats with ISOFIX be used in the Lexus GS?
No, only seats approved for the respective seating position and weight class. The manual provides detailed information on this.
