WARNING

  • Do not recline your seatback while the vehicle is moving. This can be very dangerous. In this position, the shoulder belt is not held against your body. In a collision, you could be thrown against the shoulder belt and suffer serious neck or other injuries. You could also slide under the lap belt and suffer serious internal injuries.
  • For the best possible protection while the vehicle is moving, the seatback should be upright. Always sit well back in your seat with both feet on the floor, and adjust the seat properly. See "Seat Belt Precautions" later in this chapter.
  • After adjusting, make sure your seat is locked in place by gently rocking it forward and backward.
  • Do not leave children unattended in the vehicle. They could operate switches or controls by accident. Children left unattended in a vehicle could be involved in serious accidents.
  • Do not adjust your seat position while driving, as driving requires your full attention. The seat could move suddenly and you could lose control of the vehicle.
  • The seatback should not be reclined more than necessary for comfort. The seat belt is most effective when the occupant is seated well back and sitting upright. If the seatback is reclined, the risk of sliding under the lap belt and being injured increases.

WARNING

When adjusting a seat, make sure not to touch any moving parts to prevent injury and damage.
