AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Boîte automatique

Selector lever 1

P: Park

R: Reverse

N: Neutral

D: Automatic mode

M: Manual mode

4: Display of the gear engaged in manual mode.

Note: Press button 2 to move from D or N to R or P.

Starting

Mise en route

With selector lever 1 in position P, switch on the ignition.

To leave position P, it is essential to press the brake pedal before pressing the release button 2.

With your foot on the brake pedal (indicator 3 on the display goes out), move the lever out of position P.

Engage position D or R only when the vehicle is stopped, with your foot on the brake and the accelerator pedal released.

Driving in automatic mode

Move selector lever 1 to position D.

In most driving conditions, you will no longer need to touch the lever: the gears will change automatically, at the right time and at the appropriate engine speed, as the "automatic system" takes into account the vehicle load, the road profile and the selected driving style.

Economical driving

On the road, always leave the lever in position D with the accelerator pedal lightly pressed; the gears will automatically shift to a lower engine speed.

Acceleration and overtaking

Press the accelerator pedal firmly and fully down (past the kickdown point of the pedal).

This will, within the engine's capabilities, downshift to the optimal gear.

Driving in manual mode

Conduite en mode manuel

With selector lever 1 in position D, move the lever to the left.

Successive pulses on the lever allow you to change gears manually:

  • to downshift, push the lever forward;
  • to upshift, pull the lever backward.

The engaged gear is shown on the display in the instrument panel.

Special cases

In certain driving situations (for example, engine protection or activation of the Electronic Stability Control: ESC...), the "automatic system" may impose a gear by itself.

Likewise, to prevent "incorrect operation", the "automatic system" may refuse a gear change: in this case the gear display flashes for a few seconds to warn you.

Exceptional situations

  • If the road profile and its bends do not allow the automatic mode to be maintained (e.g. in mountains), it is advisable to switch to manual mode. This prevents successive gear changes by the "automatic" function when climbing, and provides engine braking on long descents.
  • In very cold weather, to avoid stalling the engine, wait a few moments before leaving position P or N and selecting D or R.

When climbing a hill and stopping, do not keep your foot on the accelerator.

Risk of overheating the automatic gearbox.

Parking the vehicle

When the vehicle is stopped, keep your foot on the brake and move the selector lever to position P: the gearbox is in neutral and the drive wheels are mechanically locked by the transmission.

Apply the parking brake.

If the underbody of the vehicle is struck during a manoeuvre (for example against a kerb, a raised pavement or any other street furniture), you may damage the vehicle (for example, bending an axle).

To avoid any risk of an accident, have your vehicle checked by a Brand Representative.

Malfunction

  • While driving, if the message "Gearbox fault, have checked" appears on the instrument panel, it indicates a fault.
Consult a Brand Representative as soon as possible;
  • While driving, if the message "Gearbox overheating" appears on the instrument panel, stop as soon as possible to let the gearbox cool down, until the message disappears;
  • For towing a vehicle with an automatic gearbox, refer to the "Towing" section in chapter 5.
  • For safety reasons, never switch off the ignition before the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

    Anomalie de fonctionnement

    At start-up, if the lever is locked in P while you press the brake pedal, the lever can be released manually. To do so, unclip the base of the lever, then insert a rigid tool into slot 5 to unlock the lever.

    Consult a brand representative as soon as possible.
