| ALP 2 | The starter does not engage when the selector lever is in P or N |
INSTRUCTIONS
Consult the "ALP" only after performing a complete diagnosis with the diagnostic tool and carrying out the conformity check.
Make sure the diagnostic tool reading, the selector lever positions and the gear engaged shown on the instrument panel are consistent.
Check the mounting of the multifunction switch. Check the adjustment of the control following the method described in the technical note.
Switch off the ignition and disconnect the automatic transmission control unit connector. Check that fuse F3 (25 A) is in good condition, replace it if necessary. With the starter switch operated, check for 12 V on pin 3 of the UPC.
Make sure the starter switch is working correctly.
Check the power circuit of the starter relay and the starter motor.
Carry out a diagnosis of the injection system and the Body Central Unit (UCH).
AFTER REPAIR
Carry out a complete check with the diagnostic tool.
| ALP 3 | Automatic transmission operating problems |
INSTRUCTIONS
Consult the "ALP" only after performing a complete diagnosis with the diagnostic tool and carrying out the conformity check.
With the diagnostic tool, check that the display matches the selector lever positions (ignition on, engine off).
Check the adjustment of the control following the recommendations given in the technical note.
Check the fluid level and condition of the oil (colour, smell, etc.). If the condition of the oil indicates an internal fault, replace the automatic gearbox.
With the engine off, check the line pressure reading supplied by the oil pressure sensor. Replace the sensor if the pressure reading is > 0.2 bar.
Fit a pressure gauge to the gearbox case pressure tap (make sure the oil temperature is above 20 °C before continuing). Record the line pressure value shown on the gauge and on the diagnostic tool under the following conditions:
Replace the pressure sensor if the values read on the gauge and on the diagnostic tool differ. Repeat the check after replacement. |
Gearbox oil temperature between 60 °C and 90 °C, brakes applied and selector lever in "D". Fit a pedal depressor or a pedal depression stop on the accelerator pedal to obtain a stable target pressure of approximately 8 bar (engine speed approximately 1300 rpm). Under these conditions, record the values shown on the gauge and on the diagnostic tool, making sure the engine speed remains stable between the two readings. These measurements must be taken quickly so that these conditions are not maintained for too long.
If the difference between the two readings exceeds 0.5 bar, replace the pressure modulation solenoid valve (EVM) and the oil. Repeat the check after replacement. If the problem persists, replace the hydraulic valve body and all the solenoid valves.
Start the engine. Brakes applied, move the selector lever to "D" and monitor the turbine speed reading while accelerating. If the turbine speed reading changes, replace the gearbox.
Refer to the procedure and safety instructions for checking the torque converter stall speed. Theoretical engine speed at stall point: 2300 ± 150 rpm. If the stall speed is incorrect, replace the torque converter, the converter lock-up solenoid valve and the oil. If the oil is burnt, also replace the hydraulic valve body and all the solenoid valves. When replacing the torque converter, make sure the reactor shaft is properly secured to the oil pump hub (crimped shaft). Note: A stall speed that is too low may be caused by a lack of engine power.
Carry out a road test while monitoring the engine speed on the instrument panel and the readings given by the diagnostic tool. If the engine speed does not change at each gear change, replace the hydraulic valve body and all the solenoid valves.
AFTER REPAIR
At the end of the repair, clear the fault memory using command RZ004 "Clear fault memory", the ECU self-adaptive values using command RZ005 "Self-adaptive", and the converter adaptive values using command RZ006 "Converter lock-up adaptive". Refer to the "Configuration and learning" chapter to reset the transmission oil ageing counter (enter the date if the gearbox oil has been changed).
| ALP 4 | Automatic transmission malfunction during gear changes |
INSTRUCTIONS
Consult the "ALP" only after performing a complete diagnosis with the diagnostic tool and carrying out the conformity check.
Automatic transmission malfunctions may be observed when shifting gears even though no fault is stored in the control unit. These malfunctions may be caused by contact resistance problems on the control circuits of the sequence and progressive solenoid valves (EVS1 to EVS6), which prevent the self-diagnosis from detecting a solenoid valve fault or prevent the solenoid valves from being controlled.
Check the crimping and condition of the clips, from the ECU to the solenoid valve, on each connection of the solenoid valve control circuits.
AFTER REPAIR
Carry out a road test, then a full check with the diagnostic tool.
| ALP 5 | Unintended gear changes |
INSTRUCTIONS
Consult the "ALP" only after performing a complete diagnosis with the diagnostic tool and carrying out the conformity check.
Carry out a road test with the CLIP diagnostic tool and check that state ET013 "Gear engaged" operates normally.
When the customer complaint occurs, with the brake pedal released, check that state ET142 "Brake pedal pressed" indicates NO. If not, adjust the brake light switch and the brake pedal return spring.
Check that the gear engaged indication on the instrument panel matches the selector lever position.
Check the routing of the automatic transmission harness (interference problem due to high voltage). Modify it if necessary.
Check the adjustment of the external control. Replace the multifunction switch if the problem persists.
Carry out a diagnosis of the injection system.
Check information PR006 "Engine speed" during a road test at a stabilised speed. If the information is incorrect, replace the engine speed sensor.
AFTER REPAIR
Carry out a road test, then a full check with the diagnostic tool.
| ALP 6 | Reversing lights not working (Scenic II only) |
INSTRUCTIONS
Consult the "ALP" only after performing a complete diagnosis with the diagnostic tool and carrying out the conformity check.
Check that the bulbs are in good condition. Check the condition of the bulb contacts. Repair if necessary. Check that the rear light earth connection is good: right rear light channel 4 and left rear light channel 1.
Switch off the ignition and disconnect the modular connector. Switch the ignition back on and check for + APC on pin A2 of the modular connector. Check that fuse F5C (10 A) on the UPC is in good condition and that there is + APC on pin 6 of connector PPM2.
Switch off the ignition and check continuity between pins A1 and A2 of the modular connector on the gearbox side, selector lever in position "R". If there is no continuity, replace the multifunction switch. If continuity is good, check continuity between pin A1 of the modular connector and pin 9 of connector PPM2 on the UPC.
Switch on the ignition. With the selector lever in position "R", check for +12 V on: pin 9 of connector PPM2 on the UPC
AFTER REPAIR
Carry out a complete check with the diagnostic tool.
