Wheels

An important wheel dimension is the offset "d". This value denotes the distance between the wheel centerline and the surfaces where the rim contacts the wheel hub.

Suitable wheel bolts for steel and alloy wheels from Audi can be recognized by the recesses in the bolt head.

This is what a steel wheel for Audi 80 looks like. The following markings are stamped into the metal:
1 – wheel designation;
2 – offset;
3 – part number.
Audi 80 vehicles may be fitted with wheels marked 6 J x 15 ET 37 or 7 J x 15 ET 37. The additional marking "H 2" is sometimes found on the rim. The numbers and letters mean the following:
6 or 7: rim width in inches, measured between the rim flange bead seats across the direction of wheel rotation.
J: designation of the flange height.
x: designation of a well-base (drop-center) rim.
15: rim diameter in inches, measured from bead seat to bead seat (tire seating diameter).
ET 37: wheel offset of 37 mm.
H2: designation of a well-base wheel with ring grooves on the bead seats. Two raised ribs inside at the base of the rim prevent the tire beads from slipping off the flange under lateral load (sharp cornering with low tire pressure).
These standard designations indicate only the basic dimensions of the wheel, but not vehicle-specific data such as the number of wheel bolt holes or their diameter.
