Fig. 146 Partial view of center console: parking brake applied
Applying the parking brake
- Pull the parking brake lever fully up.
Releasing the parking brake
- Pull the parking brake lever up slightly while pressing the release button => fig. 146 -arrow-.
- Keeping the button pressed, push the lever fully down.
If you inadvertently drive with the parking brake applied, a buzzer sounds (warning signal) and the following message appears in the display:
Parking brake applied
The parking brake warning also activates if you drive for more than 3 seconds at a speed above 5 km/h.
The warning light
lights up when the parking brake
is applied and the ignition is switched on.
CAUTION!
Remember that the parking brake must be released completely. If the parking brake is only partially released, the rear brakes may overheat, which can adversely affect the brake system - risk of accident!
Warning!
After stopping the vehicle, always first apply the parking brake fully, then engage a gear (on vehicles with manual transmission) or move the selector lever to position P (on vehicles with automatic transmission).
Parking
To prevent a parked vehicle from rolling away, observe the following rules.
- Bring the vehicle to a stop using the foot brake.
- Apply the parking brake fully.
- Switch off the engine.
- Engage the
speed, on vehicles with a manual gearbox, or place the selector lever in position P, on vehicles with an automatic gearbox
To park the vehicle on a road with a gradient
Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle will strike the curb if it starts to roll.
CAUTION!
- Never leave anyone, especially children, inside the vehicle when it is locked. By locking the doors, you make it more difficult for rescue services to get in from outside in an emergency - risk of death!
- Never leave children unattended in the vehicle. They could, for example, release the parking brake or move the gear selector lever to neutral. The vehicle could then start to move - risk of accident!
