The differences between Steptronic and manual transmission are explained, including safety and environmental aspects. Ideal for users who want to understand and safely apply the technical procedures.

Safety notes

DANGER If the exhaust pipe is blocked or ventilation is insufficient, harmful exhaust gases can enter the vehicle.

The exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which is colorless and odorless but toxic. In enclosed spaces, exhaust gases can also accumulate outside the vehicle. There is a risk to life. Keep the exhaust pipe clear and ensure adequate ventilation. WARNING An unsecured vehicle can start moving on its own and roll away.

There is a risk of accident. Before leaving the vehicle, secure it against rolling away.

To make sure the vehicle is secured against rolling away, observe the following:

  • Apply the parking brake.
  • On inclines or downhill, turn the front wheels towards the curb.
  • On inclines or downhill, additionally secure the vehicle, e.g. with a wheel chock.

NOTE If the engine is started repeatedly or several times in quick succession, the fuel is not burned or is burned insufficiently.

The catalytic converter can overheat. Risk of property damage. Avoid starting the engine several times in quick succession.

In the BMW 5 Series G30/G31, ready mode is controlled safely and comfortably by modern technology. Clear procedures for starting and switching off the engine minimize the risk of operating errors and make everyday driving easier.

The well-thought-out safety mechanisms, which prevent the vehicle from rolling away unintentionally, deserve particular mention. In this way, the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 offers maximum safety in every situation.

This makes every engine start and stop a safe and simple process.
