Driving with a trailer

If a tire is damaged, follow the instructions.

Stabilizing the Vehicle Combination

If the trailer begins to sway, do not try to stabilize the vehicle combination by braking hard.

Avoid unnecessary steering inputs. If steering becomes necessary, act with extreme caution so as not to endanger other road users.

Trailer stabilization system

This system helps stabilize the trailer. As soon as the system detects trailer sway, it immediately brakes the vehicle combination to a safe speed, restoring stability.

The system operates at a speed of 65 km/h and above when the trailer electrical system is connected to the vehicle.

In an emergency, the system may have a stabilizing effect even if the corresponding socket is connected to a device other than trailer electrical equipment, such as a bicycle carrier light.

The system cannot react in time to a sudden trailer skid (for example, on a slippery road or loose surface). A trailer with a high center of gravity may overturn without first beginning to sway.

The system does not work when DSC is switched off or faulty.

Driving Uphill

For safety reasons and to avoid disrupting traffic flow, the maximum gradient that may be driven when towing a trailer is limited to 12°. When the increased towed load mass is permitted, this limit is 8°.

Driving Downhill

On downhill slopes the trailer is more prone to swaying, so the driver must pay increased attention.

Before starting a downhill slope, manually select a low gear on the automatic transmission, down to first gear, and descend slowly and carefully.
