Mute function

~2min read

The mute function cuts the radio's output signal. The cut takes place before amplification, whether or not there is an external amplifier.

There are 3 types of mute:

  • mute on user request,
  • internal radio mute,
  • mute on phone call (from an external mobile phone).

There are 2 ways to cancel the mute function:

  • cancelling on user request,
  • automatic cancellation.

Mute on user request

The user request is made from the audio system control. The mute request is managed by the multifunction display, which passes its command to the radio via the VAN Confort network.

A mute request cuts the sound and pauses playback of a cassette or CD.

Mute on phone call

The phone call mute function only exists on RB2 and RD2 radios.

The "phone mute" pin on the radio connector must be connected to the hands-free kit of an external mobile phone.

The radio sound is then cut for the entire duration of the phone call.

Internal radio mute

The radio performs internal mutes in the following cases:

  • change of audio source,
  • search or memorisation when the tuner source is selected.

Note: The internal mute function is managed autonomously by the radio and is not communicated to the multifunction display.

Cancelling mute on user request

The user can cancel the mute function by operating one of the following:

  • audio system control,
  • radio front panel.

Note: The user has no control over a phone call mute or an internal radio mute.

Automatic cancellation of mute function

The radio automatically cancels the mute function in the following cases:

CAUSE OF AUTOMATIC CANCELLATION

DESCRIPTION

Broadcast of a traffic announcement or selected programme The broadcast of the announcement or programme automatically cancels the mute function, without user action.

At the end of the broadcast, the radio restores the interrupted audio source, reactivating the mute function.

End of phone call with a hands-free kit (RB2 and RD2 only) The multifunction display returns the radio to the state it was in before the phone call.
