Towing the vehicle

~3min read

General instructions

Comply with the legislation in force in the country where the vehicle is driven.

Check that the weight of the towing vehicle is greater than that of the towed vehicle.

The driver must remain at the wheel of the towed vehicle and hold a valid driving licence.

When towing with all four wheels on the ground, always use an approved tow bar; ropes and straps are prohibited.

The towing vehicle must pull away gradually.

When towing with the engine off, there is no longer any brake or steering assistance.

A professional towing service must be called in the following cases:

- Breakdown on a motorway or expressway.

- Unable to place the gearbox in neutral, release the steering, or release the parking brake.

- Unable to tow a vehicle with an automatic gearbox while the engine is running.

- Towing with only two wheels on the ground.

- Four-wheel-drive vehicle.

- No approved tow bar.

Plug-in hybrid vehicles

Before any work, switch on the ignition, press the brake pedal, select mode N, then switch off the hybrid system (READY indicator off).

Always call a professional to transport the vehicle on a flatbed truck.

Use the towing eye only to free the vehicle or to secure it when loading onto a flatbed truck.
