Towing: troubleshooting

~1min read

When towing, the steering must not be locked. The key must be in the ignition in position "M" (ignition), which allows other road users to be signalled of the vehicle's manoeuvres (brake lights, hazard warning lights, etc.). When driving at night, the vehicle must be lit.

In addition, the towing regulations in force in the country where the vehicle is being used must be strictly observed. Do not exceed the maximum towing mass permitted for your vehicle. Contact an Authorised Dealer.

Do not remove the key from the ignition while towing.

  • Use a rigid towing bar. If a towing strap made of natural or synthetic fibres is used (where permitted by law), it must be possible to stop the towed vehicle using its brakes.
  • Do not tow a vehicle whose running gear is damaged.
  • Avoid jerking when accelerating or braking, as this could damage the vehicle.
  • In all cases, the speed must not exceed 25 km/h.

When the engine is switched off, the power steering and brake assist do not work.

Use only the front towing eye 1 and the rear towing eye 5.

These towing eyes may only be used for towing the vehicle. Under no circumstances may they be used to lift the vehicle, either directly or indirectly.

Access to the towing eyes

Release cover 3 or 4 by inserting a flat tool under the cover.

Screw the towing eye 2 in fully: first by hand, until it stops, then tighten it with the wheel wrench.

Use only towing eye 2 and the wheel wrench stored in the luggage compartment (see the "Tool kit" section in chapter 5).

Tools must always be secured in their case, otherwise they may fall out during braking.
