Topping up fluid levels
Methane
Capacity: approx. 13 kg. Total cylinder volume is approx. 84 litres.
CAUTION
40) Fiat Punto Natural Power is equipped with a high-pressure methane system designed to operate at a rated pressure of 200 bar. Operation at higher pressures is dangerous. When towing or lifting the vehicle, follow the instructions in the "Towing the vehicle" section to avoid damaging the methane system components. If the methane system is damaged, contact only a Fiat authorised service centre. Do not modify the methane system or its components; they are designed exclusively for the Fiat Punto Natural Power. Using other components or materials may cause malfunctions and reduce safety.
41) When painting in a paint booth, the cylinders must be removed from the vehicle and then refitted at a Fiat authorised service centre. Although the methane system is fitted with numerous safety devices, it is recommended to close the manual valve on each cylinder whenever the vehicle will not be used for a long period, transported on another vehicle, or moved in emergency situations due to a breakdown or collision.
42) Changes or repairs to the fuel system carried out incorrectly, without taking the technical parameters of the system into account, may cause malfunctions and create a risk of fire.
43) Do not switch between the two operating modes during the engine start-up phase.
CAUTION
17) If the gas in the tank runs out while operating in methane mode, the system switches automatically to petrol and all digital display segments go out; this indication remains until methane is refuelled.
18) Regardless of the fuel type used the last time the vehicle was driven, the system will automatically switch to methane after the initial petrol phase when the vehicle is next started.
19) After performing the required switch from petrol mode to methane mode, as when starting the engine, a metallic noise can be heard from the pressure-regulating valves in the system. For the switching modes described above, it is normal for there to be a delay between the valve noise and the indicator going out in the instrument cluster.
20) Under specific operating conditions, such as starting and operating at low ambient temperatures, the system may temporarily switch to petrol operation without displaying any switching information. When the methane level in the tank is low, or when better performance is requested (e.g. when overtaking, when the vehicle is fully loaded, or when driving up steep gradients), the system may switch automatically to petrol operation to provide the increase in engine power required; in this situation, the switch is indicated by the warning lamp lighting up
in the
instrument cluster. When the above conditions cease, the system automatically returns to methane operation, and the warning lamp
goes out. To
allow the automatic switchover described above, always make sure there is sufficient fuel in the tank.
