Using voice commands or the media menu of the system, you can access and play music from your digital player through the vehicle's speaker system. You can also sort and play your music by specific categories, for example, by artist or album.

SYNC works with almost all digital players, including iPod, Zune and Plays for Sure devices, and most USB flash drives. SYNC also supports audio formats such as MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC.

Make sure the USB device is formatted correctly and meets the following specifications:

  • USB 2.0.
  • The file system must be FAT16/32.
Note: NTFS file format not supported.

The audio file format on the USB device must be:

  • MP3.

Media menu functions

The Media menu lets you select how music tracks are played, for example by artist, genre, shuffle or repeat, find similar music, or reset the USB device index.

Press AUX to select USB playback.

Message Description and action
Options This opens the media menu.

Followed by one of the following options:

Message Description and action
Shuffle Choose to play music tracks in random order or repeat a particular track. Once selected, this option stays active until it is turned off.
Repeat track Choose to play music tracks in random order or repeat a particular track. Once selected, this option stays active until it is turned off.
Similar music It is possible to play music types similar to the current playlist via the USB port. The system uses the metadata information of each track to compile the playlist. The system then creates a new list of similar tracks and starts playback. For this function to work, every track must have its metadata tags populated. With some playback devices, if the metadata tags have not been entered, the tracks are not available for voice recognition, the playback menu or this option. In any case, if the tracks are loaded onto the playback device in mass storage mode, they will also be available for voice recognition, the playback menu or this option. The system places unknown items in an empty metadata tag.
Reset USB Resets the USB index. Once the new indexing is complete, you can choose the tracks to play from the USB track library.
