SYNC Emergency Assistance
DANGERFor this service to work, the mobile phone must have Bluetooth and must be compatible with the system.
Always place the phone in a dedicated holder secured to the cabin to prevent it from becoming a projectile or being damaged in a collision. Failure to do so may result in serious personal injury or damage to the phone, and the automatic emergency call service may not function properly. If the occupant can make the emergency call alone, do not wait for the system to do so. Contact emergency services immediately to avoid delaying response times. If you do not hear the emergency service within five seconds of the crash, the system or the mobile phone may be damaged or not working.
If an impact causes the airbag to deploy or the fuel pump to shut off, the system can contact the Emergency Service through a paired and connected mobile phone. For more information on the system and emergency services, visit the national Ford website.Note: Before selecting this function, read the privacy note for emergency services later in this section for important information it contains.
Note: When this feature is turned on or off, the setting applies to all paired mobile phones. If the feature is turned off and, when the ignition is turned on, the system connects to a previously paired phone, a voice message is played and/or an icon or message appears on the display.Note: Each mobile phone works differently. Although this function works with most mobile phones, some may have difficulty using it.
Note: Make sure you are familiar with the airbag deployment information. See Supplementary Restraints System.Activating and deactivating emergency assistance

Display options
When this feature is turned on, a confirmation message appears on the display. When this function is turned off, a dialog box appears on the display, which allows you to set a voice reminder.
Off with Audible Alert provides a visual and audible alert as soon as the phone is connected when the vehicle is started.Off without alert provides only the visual alert, without the voice alert, as soon as the phone is connected.
To make sure the emergency service works properly:- The system must be powered and functioning correctly at the time of the crash and for as long as the function remains active and in use.
- The function must be turned on before the crash.
- A mobile phone must be connected to the system.
- In some countries, to make an emergency call you must have a valid, registered SIM card with credit.
- At the time of the crash, the connected mobile phone must be able to make and maintain the outgoing call.
- The connected mobile phone must have adequate network coverage, battery charge and signal strength.
- The vehicle must have battery power.
In the event of a crash
Note: Not all accidents cause the airbag to deploy or the fuel pump to shut off (which may activate the emergency service). However, if Emergency Assistance is activated, the system attempts to contact emergency services. If the connected phone is damaged or loses its connection to the system, it searches for any available previously paired phone and attempts to connect. The system attempts to place an emergency call. Before the call is placed:
- If the call is not cancelled and connects successfully, SYNC plays an introductory message for the emergency service operator. After the message, the vehicle occupants can speak hands-free with the operator.
- The system provides a short time window (about 10 seconds) to cancel the call. If the call is not cancelled, the system attempts to make an emergency call.
- The system plays a message indicating an emergency call attempt. You can cancel the call by selecting the corresponding function button or by pressing the end call button on the steering wheel.
- The emergency service uses the vehicle's GPS or mobile network information, if available, to determine the most suitable language to use. It reports the crash to the emergency service operator and plays the introductory message. This may include the vehicle's GPS coordinates.
- The language used to interact with the vehicle occupants may differ from the language used to transmit information to the emergency service operator.
- After the introductory message is transmitted, the voice line is activated, allowing you to speak hands-free with the emergency service operator.
- Once the line is connected, be ready to immediately state your name, phone number and information about your location.
Note: During a call with Emergency Assistance, an emergency priority screen appears containing the vehicle's GPS coordinates, if available.
Note: GPS location information may not be available at the time of the accident; in that case, Emergency Assistance will still attempt to place an emergency call.Note: Emergency services may not receive the GPS coordinates; in this case, hands-free communication with an emergency operator is still available.
Note: The emergency service operator may also receive information from the cellular network, such as the mobile phone number, the phone location and the name of the mobile carrier, independently of SYNC Emergency Assistance. The emergency service may not work if:
- The mobile phone or emergency service hardware is damaged during the crash.
- The vehicle battery or the system has no power.
- The crash throws the mobile phone out of the vehicle.
- You do not have a valid, registered SIM card with available credit in the phone.
- You are in a country or region where SYNC Emergency Assistance cannot place the call. For details, see the regional Ford website.
The emergency service currently does not make emergency service calls in the following countries: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Moldova and Russia.
For the most up-to-date information, see the regional Ford website.Emergency Service Feature Privacy Notice
When Emergency Assistance is activated, it can notify emergency services that the vehicle has been involved in a crash that caused the airbag to deploy or the fuel pump to shut off.
