Low Engine Oil Level Warning Light

Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil level sensor. If the symbol appears on the multi-function information display while the engine is running,engine oil level is too low. The appearance of this symbol is accompanied by a short audible signal. If you have selected the mode for displaying symbols with messages, the message "CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL" will appear on the multi-function display.

When this symbol appears, pull off the road and stop in a safe place on level ground. Turn off the engine and wait approximately 3 minutes.

Check the engine oil level. If the oil level is at or below the minimum mark on the dipstick, add oil to the engine (for gasoline engines, see page 444; for diesel engines, see page 444).

Do not add oil above the upper mark on the dipstick, and try not to spill oil in the engine compartment. This may cause malfunction of the engine and other vehicle equipment.

If you have no spare engine oil in the vehicle, you may drive at a moderate speed to the nearest service station and add oil to the engine. Do not drive at high speed or press the accelerator pedal fully down.

The low oil level warning light and warning message are reset each time you turn off the engine.

When you restart the engine to continue driving, the system begins monitoring the engine oil level. Some time must pass before the system detects a low oil level and displays the corresponding symbol on the multi-function information display, which may be accompanied by a warning message. If the symbol is displayed, possibly with the message "CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL", check the engine oil level and add oil if necessary before continuing to drive.

Ignoring the symbol and the low engine oil level warning message and continuing to drive may cause engine failure.

This system is activated after the engine warms up. At very low ambient temperatures, you may drive a considerable distance before the system warns you of low engine oil level.

Engine oil level sensor malfunction

If the symbol appears on the multi-function information display while the engine is runningIf the symbol appears on the multi-information display, possibly with the message "CHECK SYSTEM", this indicates a malfunction of the oil level sensor. The display of the symbol is accompanied by a short beep. Have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer service station as soon as possible.
