Low engine oil pressure warning light

~1min read
Сигнализатор падения давления масла должен загораться при включении зажигания

The oil pressure warning light should come on when the ignition is turned to the ON (II) position and go off after the engine starts.

The warning light must not be on while the engine is running. If the light stays on or flashes, this indicates very low oil pressure in the engine lubrication system. In this case, serious engine damage is possible, and you must take action immediately.

The following symbol is shown on the multi-information display:сообщением «OIL PRESSURE LOW» (НИЗКОЕ ДАВЛЕНИЕ МАСЛА).which may be accompanied by the warning message "OIL PRESSURE LOW".

Continuing to operate the engine with low engine oil pressure can cause engine failure almost instantly due to serious mechanical damage. Therefore, stop in a safe place as soon as possible and turn off the engine.

1. Observing safety precautions, pull over to the shoulder, stop the vehicle, and turn off the engine.

Turn on the hazard warning lights.

2. Wait one minute. Open the hood and check the engine oil level. If the engine oil level is very low, oil pressure may drop during cornering or other maneuvers.

3. If necessary, add oil to the engine and bring the level to normal, using the marks on the dipstick (for gasoline engines, see page 444; for diesel engines, see page 444).

4. Start the engine and watch the low oil pressure warning light. If the light does not go off within 10 seconds after starting the engine, turn off the engine. This indicates serious engine faults that must be corrected before driving (see "Towing a Disabled Vehicle" on page 562).
