Brake System Warning Light

The indicator comes on when the ignition switch is turned to ON (II) as a reminder to release the parking brake. The indicator should go off after the parking brake is fully released.
If the indicator comes on while the vehicle is moving, it indicates a possible drop in brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Lightly depress the brake pedal to check whether its operation has changed.
If the brake pedal response does not differ from normal, have the brake fluid level checked at your next visit to the service station.
If the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir is low, have an authorized dealer check the brake pad wear and the brake hydraulic system for leaks.
The following symbol is also shown on the multi-information display:
which may be accompanied by the message "BRAKE FLUID LOW".
If the brake pedal response differs from normal, take immediate action.
Because the vehicle's brake hydraulic system is divided into two independent diagonal circuits, if one of the brake circuits fails, the other circuit remains operational. In this situation, you will need to press the brake pedal with greater force. In addition, the brake pedal will travel further before you feel the vehicle slowing down.
In this case, shift to a lower gear and stop in a safe place on the shoulder of the road or at the edge of the roadway. Since braking distance increases, driving the vehicle becomes dangerous. Therefore, have the vehicle towed to the nearest service station as soon as possible (see "Towing a Disabled Vehicle" on page 562).
If there is a malfunction in the brake system or the brake force distribution regulator, the following symbol is displayed on the multi-information display:
This may be accompanied by the message "CHECK SYSTEM."
In an emergency, you may complete the trip, provided you only need to travel a short distance.
Drive very carefully and at low speed.
If the ABS malfunction indicator comes on together with the brake system indicator, have your dealer check the vehicle immediately.
